where is the relay switch for internal fan??

not sure, have a look in the manual.

it doesnt say, nor is there a diagram of which relays (need under the bonnet, not relays under passenger footwell) do what in the haynes manual... renault charing over £17 just for the replacement relay, so would rather know which one to replace myself!

What are the symptoms? Is this a cup we're talking about?

its not the cup, its the 172 sport (2l). last weekend headlights and fan / ac just stopped working. Found relay switch had fallen out under passenger front footwell and when this replaced headlights back on, but fan still not doing anything. All fuses checked and ok - is there anything else it could be if fan just totally dead?

Could be the fan motor its self of more commenly the resistor pack goes. This is fairly expensive and specific to climate control models

Yep it uses PWM rather than resistors to get the 8 speeds, very common to fail and costs £100 for the part alone unfortunately.
