which alarm to bring down insurance

Depends on the company for a start, Direct Line owuldnt knock anything off mine.

As far as I know, a CAT 1 alarm/immoboliser will knock some money off, then there are CAT2, but I dont know what they are, I think they are just immobolisers though.

When I changed companies, to HIC, they kncoked some money off, but I think it differs from company to company.

As Deeg said to get your insurance down you will need either a CAT 2 Thatcham approved immoboliser or a CAT 1 Thatcham approved alarm. The alarm will get you most money off but, depends on your age.

I was told that if I was to have a CAT 1 alarm then it wouldnt take my insurance down by much, so Im going to get an alarm for £200 instead of the CAT 1 alarm for £400.

The place that Im going to get the alarm installed at said that the only difference between the alarms was that one was in a plastic box and the CAT1 alarm was in a metal box. The only other difference is that one has coloured wires out of the box and the CAT1 alarm has all black cables out of it. They were both Clifford alarms, the Arrow 5 and the Concept 400 I think.

the 172...and probably other clios too...have a Cat 2 approved immobilisor.

Asked my Ins for a discount because Ive now got a Cat 1 alarm and they said no discount...as long as it had the immobilisor thats all they needed. Also asked about a Tracker and still no discount.

Name and shame.......Norwich Union Direct

I got the Clifford Concept 300, as I said brought my insurance down 5%, but when you have a big claim and 5 points, 5% can be a lot.

Motor Guard in Birmingham, were doing the Clifford Concept 300 for £270 with cemtral locking fitted, or at least thats what I paid. But I think £50 of that was the central locking, so that could mean that the alarm was £220? Dunno if that was because they were just introducing a new series ofalwarms or what?

For me, it was more about getting central locking and an alarm than bringing the insurance down.

CAT1.

I find it dont tend to make any difference.. unless they specify if as needing one to get insurance.

I had a CAT1 on my 1.2.. didnt alter premium.. but, its worth it for piece of mind.. knowing, if they want it, theyll have to really want it.. to have a chance.
