Which brake pads?

  172 Hillclimb/Sprint
Hi cs'ers.

I have a question to put to you. in search of advice any of you who have been there tried certain brake pads and thought better of them.

My use is hill Climbing and Sprints. It is the 172 phase 1. I have Brembo Discs , some nice and big ones :p

So my stage lengths are around the mile mark. Therefore they ideally need to heat up to optimum operating temp very quickly but also produce as little fade as possible.

I don't really have a budget on pads, as this could be the difference in the stage times.

all and any advice on what pads you have tried is very much appreciated. :)

DS2500 are the most popular, about £125 for the fronts. I used them at Anglesey and they didn’t fade at all, even being extremely harsh on them at times.. Seriously impressed!

Mike- when i search for ds2500 i get links returned from AP racing and links mostly pointing to feroda . Is it the feroda ones ?

Yes they are, Fred@BTM sells them for about £125 iirc

There is a thinner, smaller SA model which most places sell but he sells the thicker, larger SA pad.

You could try EBC yellows, we race on these and they only just start to give up towards the end
(40 mins) so you should be fine over that short distance.
Good from cold and cost about £40-50.

For a sprint/ hill climb car I use Mintex M115 front and standard on the rear, your best sticking with standard discs as these are more than anough for a sprint car, your just adding to the unsprung weight of the suspension, I've never bothered with big brakes on a sprint/hillclimbcar tbh.

Regards Russ..

you never gave much feedback on the 1155's Russ. happy?

I'm using EBC Bluestuff in the front of mine, find them brilliant from cold, and have never managed to make them fade on the track day I did. Pad wear is also very good, they are lasting very well. I have Yellowstuff on the rears, which we all know do very little braking, and they seem to be wearing quicker than the fronts, and give off more dust.

my experience of bluestuff was they destroyed disks incredibly fast

In which way? Did they wear the disc down quickly? The discs seems to be wearing ok, certainly no faster than I'd expect, but the pads are leaving black outlines of the pad shape on the disc after its stood while still damp etc. Although the marks are there they're not really affecting performance, although there is now slight judder which may be these slightly raised marks.
I've only been doing the 4 mile commute to work for the last couple of months in the car, need to give it a good blast sometime to see if I can clean the discs up.

sorry for this late reply, but thanks all for the input, i will look at some EBC yellows and the mintex pads. when i said the brembo's were big, they are only slightly bigger than stock and are also lighter than the stock discs, so defo not an issue :p and the car is around a tonne with driver and fuel, which isn't too bad.
