Which components

  Mk2 Golf GTI

Any ice experts out there (bam bam ;)), i am going to get some 5" components for my 03 clio and want to know the best to go for. Im looking for quality over quantity as i wont be blasting my system and want as little distortion as possible, so can you give me some makes and model numbers please. Got a budget of around £100 but may stretch to around £120 as i can probably find them cheaper on various sites. I did see some Infinity 5000cs advertised on one site for £79.99, they are around £120 on bass junkies. I heard infinity were quite good.

Where have people mounted the crossovers as i want them out of site.

And can you also recommend some decent 5" coaxials for the rear as i dont want my poor passengers to listen to standard speakers!

I have a vibe vp3 amp to power the speakers and will probably run the wires to the back of the head unit as i dont want to drill any holes.

Cheers

yeah i was looking at those as well. How much did you pay as ive seen the components for £99.99. Where have you mounted the crossovers and did you amp the speakers up?

cheers

  Clio II and Grand Modus

Use my hu as amp for the speakers works fine, and then a mono amp for the sub in the boot. 8 inch Hertz kick bas sub box Exelent sound and I can still have something in there as I use it a lot. Crossovers are hidden in the doors but you can also place them on the underside of the glovebox ect. can´t remember the price but it was something like that. I will recomend them if you want very clear an good sound apart form a wery high boomy one.

OK bambam, ive seen the phoenix gold ones RRP £85. Will these be better than the Infinitys RRP £120? I know the price doesnt always matter but was just wondering if you had chosen them to fit around my original budget or whether they are just as good. Do they come with crossovers as i cant see a pic with them on, just the midrange & tweeters.

cheers

yes the PG components come with crossovers, just not all singing all dancing show crossovers

IMHO in terms of SQ the PG will just about beat the Infinitys, in terms of volume, id say the infs will be a league above, dont really know the stats for the infs so cant really say much about them

i chose them because as far as budget speakers go, they are in terms of construction and quality, so much more advanced than most of their similar priced rivals

nah gonna have to argue with u this time bambam u can do better than the PGs for a smilar price. Try a set of focal access series components...ur local large(ish) ripspeed store should stock um and they come with a quality crossover for the money u spend on them....more SQ orianted than SPL and dont expect a lot of volume from them but a fantastic v.accurate speaker...priced around 100 quid but maybe able to source cheaper online?

i went to ripspeed last night and the cheapest i saw them for was £120. Think i might get the infinitys as my mate has a pair going for around £60, the 5000cs model. Hes also giving me the infinity coaxials for the rear. Cheers for the help lads,

Just one more thing, is there an FAQ on how to install these into a mk2 clio as i already have the pods for the tweeters in the dash.
