evo 5 clio 172 cup
Hi everyone. Im just after abit of advice really and to see what people's opinions are. Im new to the clio scene as im into my jap stuff aswell. I wanted a car to use around the track at silverstone last weekend as im too scared to break my evo. Lmao. 3 weeks ago I bought a 53 plate cup from my cousin. Unfortunately the cambelt had snapped on him so I bought it cheap. Its been rolling roaded at k tec and made 170.9 on the rollers. Its got matched inlets, sports cat, ktec remap, ktec panel filter, ktec engine mounts, ktec stealth exhaust, poly bushed right through and KW coilovers so hes spent proper money on it.
My dilemma started after I bought it. Because I only had just under 2 weeks to get it ready I chose to replace the whole engine for quickness. I bought the engine from an apparent Renault specialist on Ebay. He gave me all the bulls**t that the engine was low mileage etc etc and that he only sells good engines blah blah blah. So I cambelted it with new water pump etc as you would and gave it a full service with good oil etc. It was obvious the sump had been off recently as it had silicone around it but I carried on with this engine as I took mateys word that it was a good strong engine. Well it made it from Cornwall to Silverstone and beat the bottom end right out so I lost a fortune last weekend.
I now have the choice of where to go from here. Im going to use my original bottom end. Im just going to rebuild my original engine from scratch. I want the clio to be good everyday car but also to be a good track day car. Im not loaded with money so the build will have to be on a sensible budget if you know what I mean.
In your opinions would you rebuild it with a standard bottom end with maybe ACL bearings and ARP bolts or is it worth taking extra time and going down the fordged route? I dont really want to go down the forced induction route but like the thought of maybe throttle bodies down the line?
Many thanks Dom
