Which free AV?

Hi, I've just uninstalled Norton 360 off my dad's laptop cos it was f**king with the email. In the short term I need to install some kind of free product, was thinking about just going for AVG but wondered whether there are better alternatives out there?

avast or avg - both seem to do the job pretty well with minimum of fuss

I've used both in the past, but preferred Avast because it didn't seem to chew as many system resources.
