Which gearbox for track 182?

Hi all, running my track 182 on 15s and think the box is on the way out. What are my options for replacement? I believe there are speedo issues with some boxes (cup ones?).

Any advice appreciated. Might do a lightened flywheel too while Im in there :)

ps - will be a box from a scrappy so no sequential dogboxes :p

Get a LSD if the box is coming out Pabs, as far as boxes go think the one your looking for is the jc5 130.
Theres bound to be somebody near us that recons them

lsd = remortgage lol!!!! Recon might be an option alright. Usually handier just to get another box tho isnt it? Anywhere local to us break 172/182s?

Not very many but I usually get a heads up of the ones that do come in. Never bother trying down and traynors, they'd say yes to anything just to turn up to find a fiat panda.
Might be one in soon pretty local to us, i'll let you know whether its a 172 or 182

bump, box is shagged so choice is a replacement box or getting mine refurbed.

the thing is if you are buying a second hand box, you should really have it opened and inspected anyway.

most of the cost involved in a box change will be the labour unless you are doing it yourself.

i would probably suggest rebuilding your own box unless it is really shagged, what mileage has it covered?

Ill be removing myself. Plan is to get it refurbed but a straight swap for a low mileage box would be handy too depending on cost.

done 50k ish but a fair few of those are track miles.

i would want an inspection on any second hand box to be honest.

what is the problem, syncros?

if you do rebuild your box speak to fred, i think he can get hold of steel selectors which are much stronger.

was crunchy going into 3rd (on high rev upshifts). Then all gears became hard to get with 3rd getting bad even on downshifts. rev very hard to get in the paddock.

If it was on its way out before itll be fecked now I guess.

yup, third gear syncro. it's always the first to go.

personally i'd bite the bullet and have it rebuilt, at least you are sure it is 100% then.

i've just had a box built with the internals cryo treated, should be on the car in a couple of months or so, hopefully it will be good for a fair few miles!
