Which is better?

Car  Titanium 182
Thinking on getting a new Clio soon, don't know whether to get the:
172,
182,
Cup,

which one one would you say is the better one to buy?

What's your budget?

They are all much of a muchness, you just need to buy the best you can for your money.

ie. a mint 172 instead of a ropey 182 but depends what you're spending.

There's only one way to find out!

If you search I'm sure you'll find loads of threads on this. All depends what you're using it for and how much you want to spend. They're all much the same in reality and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference in any of them.

about £2500 would be a budget, I know that would be hard to get one with low miles and that on.

is the 10 extra horse power actually worth it from a 172 to 182?

No because you'll probably not see 10 extra, it's a bit of a lottery on these engines. For 2500 I'd be looking at mint 172s or 172 cups depending on wether you want the leather/toys or not?

I prefer the 172 body but the cup alloys, I know there isn't much difference but it's personal preference.

2.5k will get you a reasonable 182 but not a minter.

personally I love the look of the 182, the exhausts do it for me, and the Full Fat is my weapon of choice as I like all the toys and half leather etc. the only improvement from the other specs of 182 is to nick the seats out of the trophy :)

Yes definitely a 182ff for me, theres going to be minimal pace difference between them all, but the 182ff has better seats and more toys than a cup, and a better looking exhaust than a 172.

If you search you will get a good one for that price, i did.

If it's a daily, 182 is the best bet in my opinion as you get the creature comforts but personally I would get the best car you can for your budget and not get too hung up on the model as they are all similar.

I like the 182's a lot, it would be better if it had the cup suspension and alloys but they can just be added I guess, 2.5k for what milage do you reckon?
I prefer the exhausts on the 182 which is one of the reasons why I want one of them more.

don't get hung up on mileage either, look for service history, belt changes and general feel of the car and owner. I bought mine for 2.6k on 103k and it drives and looks better than some 60k ones I tried in the search

The 182ff is the 182 with cup packs, this has the cup suspension, anthracite standard alloys, a larger rear spoiler and the front cup splitter.

Really? I got told that at after about 90k clio's start developing loads of problems, my 1.5 is on 92k and seems to have had a few problems, not had it long and it had been well looked after, and I guess but I like the xenons and the washers on the bumper of the 182

Have a search mate, you'll be surprised that high mileage cars are spot on providing they have been looked after.

Also have a look in the cars for sale section to get an idea of what 182's you can get within your budget.

Seems to be quite a difference in price from the 172 to the 182, I've always liked the look of the xenon washer jets so I don't think id be getting myself a cup model.

2500 would buy my 55 plate 182 clio in black 93k fsh got the xeons Recaro seats Cruise Control+Traction Control 12 months mot priced to sell ;)

I had another read through it yesterday think I'd get a sport model, 182 or maybe a 03 plate 172 where it still has decent features and abs

you were told wrong. Provided its been looked after and had regular oil changes, the problems related to millage are going to be minimal. The problems relating to age will be there whether is a low of high millage example.

all 172/182's are sports. if you want abs + xenon's, then don't get a cup model. 182FF will give you everything.

These threads generally turn into a "what clio do you own" thread TBH.

Personally I think the best option overall is a non cup ph2 172, got all the creature comforts but without the backend looking like a wheelbarrow like the 182 does and cheaper too.

Can get the 172's a lot cheaper than 182's so might do that, however much it is and if I part exchanger my current car, that would bring it down a bit, obviously from a dealership.

If your current car is payed off then you might be better off selling it private then putting the money towards your new car, a dealer will give you peanuts.

Also you will be paying more from the dealer, if you but private from somewhere like off here, the cars have usually been looked after and had their services/belts changed at a specialists rather than someone that doesnt know much about them.

Seen a 172 and 182 around my area, having a look at them tomorrow they are private sells. Only problem with my current clio is that it's a diesel, not really one people would choose to buy I don't think, think I'm handing it down to my sister or something, failing that, try and sell would be worth a try at least, what are the best things to look out for when viewing a car?

just a word of warning as you do seem to be a newbie to the scene. If you do go for a 172/182, make sure the belts have been done or that car is £500 cheaper than the normal asking price (as that's how much it will be for you to get them done). All 172/182's should have had there belts done by now at least once. Also make sure it was done by someone in the know I.e. a Renault specialist) as the belts on these are very easy to mess up which will result in the car being down on power.

We'll I am going to ask about service history on them I've heard about the belts before they need to be done , don't really know how often they should get done, but I will look into that cheers.

I'd go for the 182, because if you buy a 172, you'll always wonder if you should have got a 182, more so than vice versa.

Just don't buy a shabby 182 over a nice 172.
