I'd go for the 182, because if you buy a 172, you'll always wonder if you should have got a 182, more so than vice versa.

Just don't buy a shabby 182 over a nice 172.

Why would you be wondering? Other than a wheel barrow styled exhaust and a slightly better (and it really is slight) exhaust manifold they are the same car, there really isnt much difference between them.
We bought a 182 recently but only because it was a colour we particularly liked (RB not available on 172) if it wasnt for that there would be nothing about it I prefer to our previous Ph2 172.

Only real advantage the 182 has is colour choice and being slightly newer (although 8-9 years versus 10-12 years is hardly a big difference) it might be in slightly better condition on average.
