Which is faster: CUP or RS1?

I would say it is don't to the individual cars matey.

Would say a CUP if both standard (in a straight line)
 
Cup. Obviously there will be exceptions.

Probably similar pwr/weight but Cup has better gearing and suspension which should enable it to get to power down better.

Only based on what 1/4 mile times I've seen on here. No doubt on the road there wouldn't be a great deal in it.
 
I bought my RS1 recently from a nice dude on here!

It's got a few extras and has been well maintained but when I was out with Dansta who has a fast cup, there was nothing in it. We only got one traffic light run as we caught the attention of some dudes with flashing blue lights and got in a bit of trouble!
 
Think the one with the alloy bonnet weight about 5kg less, all the figures were from a weight bridge. Renaults weight figures from the RS1 are BS.
 
Still reasonably light considering it has ABS, Aircon and a 6 speed changer as standard.

How exactly did the cup loose all it's weight?

I always love the way cup owners do this. Renault say a RS1 weighs 1035kg and the cup weighs 1021kg. Yet a RS1 was weighed and was 1100kg. So they all say a RS1 weighs 1100 and a cup is still 1021, because Renault said so.

I bet if you weighed a cup at a weighing station it wouldn't weigh 1021kg ;) I reckon it'd be nearer 1070kg.

Official kerb weights are never right.

Unless someone has weighed a cup?

Less soundproofing, seats, spare, thinner glass all round, air con, engine cover, wheels,..... er..... few other bits, but not sure what...
 
Mine is the alloy bonnet but it makes no differance as the boot is always full of junk!
 
I never understand the reasoning behind everyone saying that the cup is faster because its lighter, which in theroy it should be if it was a race car. Think about it, its a road car the weight advantage could be lost by a full tank of petrol and a fat driver!!! plus with a set of wheels with a diff offset how can anyone else expect to compete with a cup in the corners!!!
 
Yeah if the Cup driver was 14 stone heavier than the 172 driver they would be the same weight. Have we got any 25-30 ish stone Cup drivers on here?
 
Prob have yeah its the weight of there heads!!! oj

did i not mention fuel aswell tho cup full tank 172 empty think about it the weight advantage can very easily be lost all thats needed is abit of crap in the boot tools etc
 
Why you getting your nickers in a twist, I said the Cup is slightly faster due to its weight advantage which it is.

Do you really care if a Cup will pull away from you?
 
Guys, i weigh 55kg and i have a mk2 172 full fat. I have nothing in the boot only the spare wheel and a tissue box lol. Will my total weight be almost the same as a fat person in a 172 cup :P
 
Im not if anything im having a laugh about it, the point that i was making is that (in more detail) say you take a 172 and a cup there is around a 80kg weight difference, if mr cup has just filled his car up and the 172 that happens to pull up next to him with the petrol light on then this weight advantage is some what lost since around 1L of fuel is around 1kg-ish than thats around 40kg heavier. 80-40 = 40kg
then you could some stuff in the boot maybe a spare wheel (cups dont have one do they? cant remember) and the weight loss is quickly so would be slower, but then again the same could be said for the 172.

Im talking about an everyday situation anyway, personally i couldnt care less if you pull away from me as i would be too busy laughing my arse off
 
And how many Cup owners have bought a spare wheel? I have done, I wanted the peace of mind rather than the slightly less weight.

I can get away with it, I'm a skinny B*&^%$£
 
lol Thats what I was thinking. I think the easiest way to think is two cars, 1 cup and 1 172 both with the same fuel in and and empty boot. Same weight driver and same road. You could argue all day about having different weighted people in the car. I know, lets have it both cars with max passengers...the cup is only allowed 4 as it is technically a 4 seater ;)

As the South West airfield events show, it's mostly down to who drives the hardest and the most efficiently - rather than the car. I reckon a lower weight car or even 10% more power won't make that much of a difference for cars of a pretty similar power to weight. No diff between any of 'em! Only difference is the drivers!!
 
Agreed, but if you take a 172 and a Cup and all things being equal (petrol, drivers weight, skill, both producing power they should) the Cup will pull on a 172.
 
Cup drivers will also weigh less than a full phat 172 driver due to them losing weight from sweating thanks to no air con in the summer months !
 
FACT - the 172Cup is the fastest 2.0 Clio

Why argue? It's closely followed by the 182Cup, 182, then 172. All are pretty even stevens really. The only one I reckon has something to make up is the MkII 172 at 154bhp/ton, but even then I doubt there's anything in it on tarmac.
 
Don't wanna open a new topic, so i am just gonna ask in here...

what the approximate weight of the mk1 172 aircon? I am seriously considering having it removed from the car...
