Which Turtle Beach headset for my 360?

  Nissan Jewk
I'll probably end up waiting for them to go on Xmas sale now, but i've been recommended the following:

- X31
- X41
- X3

They all seem to be mega money, are they worth it?

Gaming through a headset is soooo much better anyway, not just for footsteps and things!

I had to post as I saw some people recommending Astro's.

I just got the Astro A40 system.

Tbh it is over rated and not worth the price. They really lack bass which is explained by them being tuned so you can better hear foot steps etc without those sounds being drowned out by bass but this makes them pretty poor as a multi purpose headset for music/movies or general action games.

The sound is crystal clear but that is mostly because of the digital optical connection. I unplugged mine from the mixer (which I connect via toslink) and connected them to the normal headphone socket on my PC and they were not really much better than my £20 Sennheisers. I dare say if I plugged the £20 headset into the mixer they would sound just as good.

So for £195 they are bit meh tbh. If I'd paid £50 I'd be very happy but as it is I feel ripped off.

As this are gaming headsets, the clue is in the title.

I have had 4 different makes of headsets including TB, Sharkoons and they were all inferior to the quality and ease of use of the Astro's

If they are used for MLG then they must be doing something right!

Its other things you have to take into consideration aswell, not just sound.

On every other headsets I have used the quality of the connections have been very poor and gone even worse over time. For example, the XBL mic connection to the controller, the TB and the Sharkoons connections were constantly rustling and causing static and feedback. I found myself constantly re-connecting the mic jack and playing with it until the feedback went away.

I have used the A40's for nearly 12 months and they are as good as the day I got them, plenty of use out of them and haven't had one issue with any of the connections. So there is another reason for the price, the build quality alone puts them high above any other headset imo!

Oh yeah don't get me wrong. I can't knock the quality of build.

They feel like a quality product and even the box was absolutely epic.

Also the sound of my team mates on Ventrilo was scary, they sounded like they were physically sat next to me in the same room. Also true that there is absolutely no hiss or static when using them.

Whether that is worth £195 just for a headset & mixer though...well that's a different debate. Also whether you could buy a mixer for £60 and then a £20 headset is another argument.

I just think for 360 unless you are actually a pro gamer playing fps's in tournaments you would be better off with a pair of X41's as from what I have heard they have miles better bass and therefore better from an entertainment point of view - i.e. adding kick to your games with big bassy explosions etc. Oh and £70 less...

A40's are very niche and specialist and I couldn't recommend them to an average console player. I play 30+ hours a week on WoW and need to hear those mid range game sounds and voice chat clearly at the same time. Single player console games or drunken COD frag fests with your mates aren't so make-or-break when it comes to hearing every single word flawlessly.
