Whining noise

Hello, im getting a very loud whining noise which appears to be coming from gearbox area...........symptons when whinning occur going over 4000 revs & taking foot off excelerator,the whining will last for a few seconds and dissapear...clio sport 172

Me too, the gearboxes aren't very stong apparently.

Mine happens around 40mph and is more noticeable in neutral, which is the differential bearings.

i had a new back part exhaust fitted & the noise stoped for about 1month but has come back again?

I have a whining to but it's the missus ! Lol

as suggested take it out if gear and roll in neutral see if the noise chances

my mechanic said the gearbox is ok,he cant work out what it is? could it be the cat on the exhaust knackered

Does it whine when the car is stationary in neutral?

yes only when the revs go above 4000
