Whirring/rubbing noise

  CLIO172, BMW3, 3061.
Ok, i've been concerned about this since i got the car a few months ago. I can hear this Whirring/rubbing noise from the engine bay, sounds like its coming from the belts. When I bring the clutch up and bring the revs in, it gets lounder and faster and now has a light ticking sound to boot!

I know its not the clutch because I've just had a new one fitted, I can imagine it to be mst likely the cam belt but i always thought that the cam belt made a screetching noise when it needed changing. Plus in the service history it was changed a 3 weeks before I bought it.

I was going to record a video for you all to demo this sound but because the car hasnt been running for the last hour, it wont make the noise . Thats another point - it only starts to make that noise after approx half an hour of normal driving.

I'll try and record a vid later but for now, anyone have any ideas?

thanks

was the aux belt and tensioners plus the tensioners on the cambelt changed. Whirring sounds around that area are normally tensioner/idlers on their way out. Failing that could be knackered alternator, powerseering or water pump. Does it get better as engine is warmed up?

Aux belt idle pulley I would say. Do you know who did the cambelt and if they used the full aux belt kit when it was changed?

Sorry for the late reply on this. I've looked at the service history and its some dodgy garage invoice with the words "cam belt change - full kit" in biro across the middle (looks like someone went mad with a crayon).

anyways ive tried hard to record this sound but all the cameras i've tried to record it on just cant pick up the sound.

to explain it better. for the first half hour of driving the car sounds fine but then after a while on tick over at traffic lights for example, i can hear this faint wirring, rubbing sound from the engine, i've noticed as the clutch (its not the clutch as its been replaced) comes up and i accelerate more, it gets faster and a little louder but cannot be heard at 30mph. i've also noticed that when i switch my headlights on or anything that uses alot of power the same thing happends, faster and a little louder????? Alternator ??? i have no idea.

Will be something on the aux belt. Either the pulley wheel right at the bottom which is quite exposed, the tensioner pulley or as you said the alternator. I think further investigation will be required but I'm not entirly sure of the best way of going about it.
