Who has actually lowered their Mk2 172

...if so, which kit did you use, where did you buy it, how much was it, how much did it lower the car, and what were the results (better/worse than std)?

  Silver Fabia vRS

My Eibachs have been sat on a shelf at R-Tec in St Albans for about a month now but Im still waiting for my wheels so I can have it all done at the same time. Send me some pics when its done to gallery@cliosport.net and Ill put the in the 172 part.

Whats the actual model number (whatever) for the eibachs....want to get some fitted to mine.

How much were they?

Thanks
Jamie

telford_mike - did you fit them yourself? If not, now much did you pay for fitting and have you told your insurance company (and how much extra on premium?)?!

Cheers,
Rhys

wallisj - Part number appears to be 10-75-001-01-22PROKIT RENAULT CLIO B 8V, 16V.
Anyhow, thats what it says on the Eibach invoice. Have a look at http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk thats where I got them from. Might be best to phone rather than order online - I spoke to Simon he was ok.

Rhys, nice to hear from you again m8. Fitting cost me £45 at a local garage, but beware, I called 6 garages and quotes rages from the aformentioned £45 to £160! All plus VAT natch. Have I told the insurance company? Jesus, I havent even told the missus yet!! Seriously, they really dont make the car look to extreme and I really doubt that anyone would notice. I took the car to my Renault dealer straight after they were fitted (needed an oil top-up which was free) and even they didnt notice.
The cars better over uneven, broken up surfaces now, particularly over those painted rumble strips that seem to be springing up everywhere - the springs are not just stiffer - they actually improve the ride in some situations. Car corners flatter particularly on long sweepers. I can only say that I reckon this is the most cost-effective mod you can make for a total of around £170 (until of course, someone finds a better one, in which case please let me know I cant wait!).
Mike.

mike - thanks, just what I wanted to hear. Think Ill go for it, especially if I can get away without mentioning it to Insurance/Renault/Girlfriend

Rhys

HP dropped mine by 30mm but I dont know who the springs are made by. It has made the ride very firm and roll free, which is great. Definitely worth doing......

I didnt realise tht the tracking might be out, so Im going to check that out...

How much did the Eibachs lower the car in practice? It certainly sounds like they have improved on an otherwise excellent, firm but somewhat lofty ride height as standard

Has anyone had any experience with other kits, GT Tunings in particular?

  Renault Laguna Coupe

My car is now about 1.5 inches lower - so a little more than 30mm but not much. The ride is a bit firmer, but the car recovers its composure more quickly after hitting bumps & broken up surfaces.
Mike.

BTTT (back to the top).

So, we have Mike with Eibachs fitted, and a 1.5" drop.

Who else has lowered their Mk2172 and with which springs and by how much?

Id really like it _much_ lower i.e. a 60mm drop

Lowered mine last week as well (inspired by Telford Mikes experiences!). A supposed 25mm on Spax spring, but on measuring is about 30mm. Its done wonders for the handling. Flat as a steamrollered pancake. However, as someone mentioned in a thread on the main forum, the car will slide easier in the wet, which, incidentally, is just about the first thing that happened after I got it back from the muppets who fitted the springs. Sharp left turn, lifted off a wee bit too much in the wet, and bye bye grip. Utterly amazing in the dry, but I must display a bit more caution when the roads are damp. Until I ditch the not so great ContiSports, that is. Go for it, a cheap and very worthwhile modification.

Trev_m - where did you get the Apex springs? Do you have any photos of your car lowered?

Thanks to everyone for all their help so far...

  172 & LCR

Bought the springs from Revolution they do mail order tel 0191 4770785 I dont know how to post pics but Im sure Geordiepaul will post them as hes got some pics of my Motor.

Nice! Thanx for posting the pics

So, Trev_m, your car looks lower on the Apex springs than Mikes on the Eibachs? How much is it lowered now?

Whats the handling like? Is it twitchy at all? And is the ride much firmer?

Thanx!

  172 & LCR

Apex springs lowered the car 40mm just sits nice now not to hard a ride though and has improved the handling had to do something with the suspension as my old Black 16v pictured above handled better than my 172 and we couldnt be putting up with that now could we.
P.S a word of warning to 172 owners if you see this 16V and he gives you a good race dont be suprised as it has a williams engine in with a few other mods to.

Very smart Trev_m!! I read that someone fitted Spax springs and the car went oversteer crazy! Any similar problems with the Apex setup?

As for the modded 16V - v.nice! Is that a go faster baby seat in the rear?! *LOL*

  172 & LCR

Oversteer not to bad only in the wet and yes that is a baby seat but not mine I sold the car to a mate and only last week got a digital pic of it but im also limited to thrashing the 172 as I has a 6 month old baby boy born on the 13th Dec and collected my 172 on the 14th while the wife was still in hospital yes I can safely say December was a good month.
