Who has ran slicks?

  Clio 172 cup + 325ci
Right guys,

Ive a track day thursday and noticed a small bulge in one of my AD08's so ive tried to get a new one but cant source one in time.

I have been offered a lend of a set of slicks however..Any tips for running these as ive never had them before? I believe they are a different ball game all together.

I presume they need a good bit of work to heat them up properly. Are tyre pressures going to be similar to the AD08's?

I never had a problem running slicks without a cage nobody said a word. My problem was keeping the rears at the right temperature.

I could write a book on driving on slicks, it takes years literally years to learn them properly. Part worn slicks are shite compared to the a nicely scrubbed set. Slicks require all sorts of proper equipped to be utilised properly, think rose joints, 100% stiffer springs, different geometry etc. Then you have recalibrated ABS/TCS and then driving techniques and lines. Understanding when the tyre is in the zone or not takes time practice and mountains of tyres. Part worns from the web are awful, slicks are lifed by heat cycles not tread wear. You have to store them properly clean them properly etc.

Sure you can bolt some shitty ones on but you are experiences about 30% of their potential and wearing your car out quicker. Make the jump to a properly set up car or leave them alone would be my advice.

U need a cage to run slicks I think!
If you didn't know

not true. Bookarack have that restriction. Javelin don't. I run them (s**tty second hand ones) and never had any probs on my evo or clio. Just take it easy for the first lap and then enjoy the extra grip! you want to be on quite a bit of negative camber really though. My evo was on standard suspension and the outside shoulder on the front left wore down very quickly however this is common on evos on track, and they are a damn site cheaper than buying decent tyres to scrub off round a track!

I have the clio maxed at at -2.5 degrees on the front but will hopefully be going to -3 ready for next year.

As SOME have said accurately - some track companies insist on a cage due to the much higher risk of rolling the car, some don't.
Would I run slicks without a cage? No

Also the suspension really should be set very differently for slicks - much stiffer springs and different geo.
