why a clio why cliosport

seems to me that a lot of people on here are always obbsessing about turbo jap cars or other tunable marks. why did you buy your clio ?? i bought mine because it was the fastest thing i could get for brand new at the price i paid 12.2K ... i never considered that i could have an EVO or scooby or mr2 etc.. just thought i wanted a new car that knowone had spent miles farting in and eating/smoking in.

who is the core of cliosport run by / visited by?? hardcore clio diehards or skint car drivers who bought a clio because the insurance was low. Thing is for my next car i will probably be getting another renualt, even tho i could get a jap car because i usually tend to stick with a mark of car like Renault (used to be rover but they stopped producing new cars)

Its a mixture of both, most buy because they like the look and drive of the car and the fact that its the fastest you can go for the price.

Others dream of jap power but stick with the clio because its more economical and cheaper to run.

Personally i love my 16v and it makes me smile, but if i had more money id go for a faster car, might not be newer or "better" but it would have to be faster, im a speed freak.

fair enough.

but is there anyone here who really likes meganes / clios and is biased towards purchasing a certain mark. i always tend to stay with the same mark.

No I dont have any brand loyalty, when I was looking for a new car it had to be a 2.0 hot hatch with good handling. Nearly bought a Gti-6 but ended up with a Williams, I could now afford something faster/more expensive but it wouldnt be the same driving experience as a Willy.

  C4 Grand Picasso

This is my 4th Renault, first 3 were not too reliable - but I still keep going back for more punishment. Comparing to other cars in their class Renaults seem better equiped and better looking to me.

I bought mine because it was the best looking, best equiped and one of the cheapest small cars at the time.

No doubt Ill buy another Renault after this one, maybe a new shape Megane.

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

ive had all sorts.ford, pugs, vauxhall and finally renault. not sure if id buy another one though.

  Ford F-150 5.4 V8

Ive only ever had fords an rennos an afetr this renno im goin back to a ford.

I bought the 172 cos at the time it was the quickest/best equiped car for the money. At the time i tried everythin. But if ford did a hot hatch similar id prob have been drawn to that.

Gone off Renaults due to reliability issues and expense when they do go wrong.

Bought a Clio 1.4 RT a few months after passing my test and spent 3 1/2 years doing little mods to it. Got it looking nice then realised it was as pokey a melted butter. Decided to get something faster so got a 16v in April last year. Again spent a heap on it but within months realised it was that fast unless I stripped it out and had no passengers (which was never)

So finally got bored of Clios and went Jap.

i was gonna get an rx7 but chickened out. Insane running costs.
Out of about 15 cars new and 2nd hand i test drove the cup was the quickest for such a small running cost.
Oh and insurance for the 7 was gonna be £1450 where as the clio costs me £550 fully comp :D

I have owned lots of brands - VW, Pug, Citreon, Ford and now Renault. I will own any brand and Renaults product is great (like most French hot hatches and diesels:D) but the quality of it and the support is pretty shocking - I was speaking to a Cup owner in the pub the other night who is selling due to all the niggles.

In fact all the French cars me and my girlfriend have owned have put us off anything more French for a while - all of them (VTS,ZX,R5, 206 and 205) execept my current Williams have been a electrical and mechanical nightmare - In comparason to the Fords (mainly RS Fiestas) ive owned which have been superb apart from the liking to rust.

I fancy another Fiesta RST as I need some money so a cheap fast run-a-round is on the cards at the expense of the Williams:( A R5 GTT of 205 would be perfect but they are French.

As far as the Jap cars go - they like all other cars have pros and cons - you would think there are only Pros if you look around all the car forums. Most are pretty souless to drive in comparason to a good French Hot Hatch.

Ill always like the way the Clio drives around bends etc.

007 - I nearly got rid of my valver to get a Fez RST but didnt like it as much.

  Volvo S60 T5

I have always purchased what I work on, so working for reno I purchased the clio172 as I like em, plus I know how to do just about anything on em and have all the technical info to hand.:)

Why a Clio? Fastest I can go brand new for money and with all the toy (182).

I dont have any brand loyalty, except that I could NEVER drive a Ford unless it was REALLY special (RS Focus say...and even then Id probably take the 225 Megane over it).

Not really a big fan of jap motors I like my hot hatches as opposed to Scoobs etc.

THINK my next car will be a used Cupra Ibiza. Really taking a liking to them

The next step along from a 5 gt turbo, i feel in control of the car rather than something that blats in a straight line faster but is less predictable.

Im a self-confessed Clio nutter really.. old and new...

Bought my car because I knew I had to have a Clio.. I went for speed over newness though, buying myself a Williams and then the 16v.

I couldve gone for a new but slow Clio, but the idea didnt appeal so much.

Something about big engines in small, stylish and chuckable cars that does it for me!!

  Clio v6

Quite a few years ago I set up a parts department for a new Reanult dealer. I was given a Williams as a runabout until the job was done.
What a load of rubbish I thought.

Years later and after a few Saxos :( I was looking round for something that was still small and nippy. Having swore I would never touch a Renault ever again, I took a big gamble on the 172.
Totally amazed how time and development can transform a car. If I wanted to buy a new car, the Clio would still be given some consideration.

Cue angry williams owners.

I bought mine because i wanted it.

  Not a Clio

Bought a 1.2 mk1 to begin with because Id just past test and insurance was cheap. Test drove a nova 1.2 lux, pug 1.2 106 and clio 1.9 diesal before hand.

Part exd the 1.2 for a valver 2 years later as I wanted something quicker, loved how it looked and had gotten used to the size.

Bought a mk3 Astra GSi a while back but still in the Clio as Ive got problems with the astra (water hose split at 70mph on the M1 f**king the head gasket, had that done then got oil in the coolant - found out head was cracked, had that done then 2 days ago my oil light came on and it turns out that oil is no longer getting to the top of the engine... please please just be the oil pump *fingers crossed*)

Still loving the Clio, quick car but too small for me now.

Was brand loyal to VW but then drove a 172 and bought one. The build quality no where near what I was used to but when you drive the 172 it cannot be beaten if you ask me. Also nearly had an RX7 but everyone I know with scoobys, skylines etc always break them and they spend half there lives in garages!!!

The 172 is a little car with serious attitude!!!!

  Elise/VX220/R26

I bought top gear magazine and looked for the fasted 0-60 time for under £12k Clio was near enough and the GF liked the seats so we bought it lol. Dont have any brand loyalty whatsoever. I think renault are sh*t, their dealers are sh*t and they cant seem to be able to build a car correctly. Obviously the people at renault who do the engine and chassis work are holding the company up hehehe

ok not brand loyalty but car loyalty.. example if your 182/172/williams never broke would you consider getting another or just move onto a faster thing ?? + i agree with the size, next clio will have more space i rekon but i will buy a 182 most probably becuase i cant afford anything that comes close at the price.

  Mazda MX5 1.8

my clio cos i wanted a car that did 0-60 in sub 10 secs and didnt wanna spend over 10k! got a 1.6 clio for 8800! bargin imo! plus i loved my old clio (probs the biggest reason i wanted a clio to be honest!)

Cliosport well...... i used to go on maxpower forum and tbh a lot of them are right towny mailto:tw@ s">tw@ s (no offence to anyone) and seemed like the best of the lot

i wanted something small, cheap and easy to insure, wanted an 1.4 RT but i got my little 1.2 RL and im happy with it for now!

will be getting a valver next, like the shape and for what i can afford its a good buy!

im not brand loyal really, it will depend whats available and what im earning when i decide to get another car after the valver, could be anything! wouldnt mind a williams tho!
;)

  Clio Mk1 Hybrid

my first baby was going to be a 1.4 rt but i priced up the costs of valvering it and decided i might as well go and get a valver so i did just wanted a solid car which had to be a hot hatch used to love the 205gti but found them a little tinny and rattly compared to the clio joined the cliosport club cos its a great place to learn about my car and chat to people with the same interests

dont think the clio will be for life but hopefully the next few until i can afford a scooby or summat
