Why is my clio constantly trying to kill me!!

  FF BG 182
When i hit potholes, drain covers or even cats eyes it seems to throw the car completely out of balance and the back end seems to try and kick out. Even at 25mph i almost went sideways into another car. Surely this cant be right, its not just because the car has hard suspension (cup with eibach's) I'm rapidly loosing confidence and increasingly spending more money on new undewear!

I had this, used to hop across the road when going over anything uneven.

Was one of my rear shocks seized.

I have read somewhere that rear shocks could be an issue, thought the car had them replaced not that long ago though. Ill take it to a garage this week, just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem before. Just hope it doesn't end up being too expensive.
Cheers for the help

Yeah I've had this on another car. Used to dance sideways in the most alarming manner when hitting a bump. It was shock absorber related. Can't remember what the exact problem was.

I've had this kind of behaviour twice.

First time was due to a failed rear shock.

Second time (I.e. currently) is because I have changed the front shocks and springs and not had it aligned yet.

Its quite a releif to know I'm not the only one with this problem actually. Ill get my local garage to put it up on the ramp and take a quick look at the rear dampers, failing that i think the dampers where changed at Stone automotive so ill give them a call and see if the alignment was done at any point.

It also seems to be more round right hand bends rather than left, but i still guess that could be alignment or just a shot damper.

Its such an odd sensation when it happens though, the car sort of wallows to one side and then its as if you hit ice and loose traction completely.

The does look lower on the front compared to the rear but I'm not sure if this is just how Clios sit usually.

Tyres are fairly new Bridgestone Turanzas all round, would have thought they should be ok, all running about 32psi. They where at about 25 psi on the back but i wasn't sure if this was right so i gave them a little more air and still made no difference. The shocks look all ok and seem to be fairly hard if i give the back end a bit of a bounce, starting to think maybe one has seized up a bit seeing as it seems to be over right hand corners rather than left.

On the other hand i think for the last MOT the front shocks where listed of having a light dusting of oil, look ok to me but ill check them out too. Wouldn't think that would affect the rear of the car that much though.
