Why is this a write off?

i should imagine its beyond economical repair
for the insurance company using an approved bodyshop at rate `1 and new parts at retail price

The damage to the subframe/chasis/roof and airbags have probabley sealed that, although it is probabley quite an easy repair for someone who knows what they are doing. Reckon it was probably close, but suspect it was a pre-reg so they will only have paid market value opposed to full cost.

Normally if the repair cost is 60% more than the cars value the insurance company writes it off. This would be a CAT D.

Depend on what rules the insurance company's underwriters have decided. All are a bit different even though the FSA should set out rules regarding such things.

If the steering, etc is damaged this might account for it being written off

The wheel is defo pushed back, so the frame is likely fawked. Probably a good project for someone, but I'd never knowingly buy the end result

Offside driver door shutline likes slightly twisted..exhaust is also twisted which indicates the engine isnt ok at all and was shoved back? I'm not an experet this is just my observations of the pictures

The suspension also looks very low...but only the offside. Studying those pictures and not being an expert, Id say its a twisted mess and a genuine write off

Was looking at another clio involved in a similar impact, had less damage then this but repairs were still estimated at £7500. Basically once the roof gets "dented" the chasis is damaged and its a write off.

The shell must be twisted for a dent to appear in the roof and the entire windscreen to shatter like that. Also, llok at the head on shot of the engine bay. The N/S turret is sat back but the O/s turret is almost pointing at the camera indicating the entire inner wing is pushed back.
A reshell job for definate.

A whole new chassic and sheel is £1.2k or you can buy a whole cup racing rolling shell for £3k I think there one for sale on racecars.com at the moment.
It looks like a rightoff for sure the front end damage is to much its usually over 60% the value of the car.

When you start adding up the price of its it no wonder they wrote it off my car had similar damage and that cost £3.5k and mine didn't have any damaged lights or serious front metal panel damage. There stearing probaly bust and needs a new condensor radiator. Airbags £300 and the computers £300. New wheel and tyre £250.

From the picture of the interier it looks like the shells might have been compromised in which case forget it you only have to have the chassic a few mm out and insurance don't even bother fixing it. You could probably pull the chassic back and strenght it up and replace all the bits second hand for £2.5~3k then paint for £500~1k. But thats say £3.5k ontop of the £4k there bidding at the monet its just not worht it. FOr £3k its worth in you could strip the car back to nothing and stick all the bits into either a whole new sheel or a none Renault sport sell the other bits and do it not not to bad a price.
However the cars bound to be stripped for parts look at the price of it in bits
£1.5k for the engine box ecu radiator etc.
Interier £400
Seats £500
Panels doors etc £400
Wheels £400
182 exterier bits which can be salvaged £300
Rear axle £200
