Why isn't it selling?

  ?
Since placing this ad I've had literally NO phone calls or interest via email.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/1773008.htm

However, I've had about 5-6 phone calls from people who have just seen the 'for sale' sign in my car and then asked the price. (although no one has come to view it since).

I would really like to sell my clio soon to make way for a new car, what am I doing wrong? Is it too high priced? I mean, no one has even called to view it! Is it just the market is very slow atm?

I would say that the market it slow, especially for the rsi.

It doesnt appeal to many imo, due to the engine being to big for a younger person and to small for most others.

I think its priced well and will sell... eventually. Saying that ph1 172s are goine for the same/less :(

as above, they aren't really desireable, plus yours is modded, which is an instant no for most, re: the market, most wont even know 1.6s exist, just 1.2/4. If you're after another car, then trading it in may be a worthwhile option.

I've had my 206 XSI up for around 5 months now, started at £2250, now come down to £1650 and taking serious offers, still absolutely NOTHING

you're not the only one ;)

Thanks for the replies guys,

Think I will leave it a week or two and then start returning it to standard and just trade it in. The problem will be if I find a car I want from a private seller and then have no option for p/x!

Just to let you know, I bought my RSI for a grand. I think a was very lucky finding it but I also looked at a few others which wernt to much more. If your desparate to sell then lower the price.
And as said, people think modded means ragged about.

As has been said, it being modified could be the issue. I don't know about anyone else, but the pictures are the first thing I look at when viewing a car ad, and the first thing I see there is non-standard wheels, an after market steering wheel and no stereo. So before I have even read any words, I'm thinking no. If I was looking to buy a car like that, I would close the ad and move on.

Autotrader is a lot more popular and you will get alot more responses on there!

PH is the wrong place for that car IMO. More likely to do better on here, ebay, or autotrader

I'll have to try autotrader then! Ebay is a last bet tbh as I think I would get very little for it on there.

It seems expensive to me. I wouldn't get much more for my 52 plate mk2 172.

being modified could be the issue

Ok, I think I may have to return some bits to standard, namely the alloys and maybe even the lowering springs/shocks? How much do you think I should return it to standard (bearing in mind I have no HU)?

Will keep this post updated with pics/updates as I get on!

Your dreaming wanting that much, Superbenji sold his off here with lower mileage and only got about £1,200 for it, may even have been less. I know you just want to get your money back on your mods etc but that's nearly ph1 money.

i dont think the alloys help, they dont look brilliant so as above putting back to standard will make it appeal to a wider audience (rather than just boy racers). Maybe even swap the steering wheel back and put those on ebay as spares.

Too expensive according to Glass's and other valuations.

Plus it is modded which probably reduces the value unless the right person buys it.

As said too expensive. A 172 with 100k on it wouldn't fetch much more. Didn't Evil Giraffe only get 2k for his ph1 172 and that looks to be a very good example!

i'd say too expensive. by quite some way imo.

the car is 10 years old with 100k.

imo worth 1k if that.

Selling cars is hard still!

My gf is looking for a fiesta st but in no rush... We nearly snapped one up at £8k, mint, 1 lady owner, 17k miles... The dealer thought it would fly out the door, we didn't go for it as she wanted to veiw a black one the next weekend. A month later he's still got it and reduced the price even further.

Times are hard.

An RSI is an odd car, too expensive to insure when young, not much cheaper than 172 when you get a bit older.

Good luck with it but I wouldn't be too shocked if there's not loads of interest... But then BOOM, you'll get 1 call, 1 viewing and a sale!

Good luck!

I had my car up for a while. No interest at all. Then two calls in the same week (first one was a time waster), but then it sold to the second caller.

I had so many people telling me that it wouldn't sell because it had modifications and sh1te wheels. Proved them all wrong though lol.

Saying that, I did find out the general opinion was that no-one is interested in buying a modified car.

I think if mines was standard, I may have sold it quicker (but who knows)

That tells you everything unless you're a Class A r****d. So really this thread is you just trying to gain some exposure..

Why doesn't your advert say a price? Or are you one of these greedy people that's put 'offers' in the hope that someone will offer you more than you want?

slow market atm, TT really got very little interest, although the 1st to view bought but i knew that would be the case as pics dont do it justice

Webuyanycar, you won't get the price you want but its a way off selling the car.

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
For an extra £100 on your price you can get a decent ph1 172... Price is way too high imo. Take the mods off, offer it up for £1200 ish and accept anything over £1k imo and sell the mods seperate.

Thanks for the advise guys and all the usefull posts, bar one.

Have decided to return to standard and/or reduce the price significantly. Will let you know how it gets on.

Worst case scenario I can return to standard and will have to trade it in or use webuyanycar etc.

Thanks!

Only reason things don't sell is the price. Put my car up on here for sale the other week and it was gone very quickly.

Doesn't help that it is modded, which the majority of people won't want.

Totally agree with beef. I have a nice stockpile of original parts for mine that will all go back on when its sold. After all, not all insurers are mod friendly so this could be pricing out a lot of younger drivers who aren't able to get deals with specialist insurers.

For me personally I'd want a near std car & as tidy as yours looks it would certainly factor into my decision that ph1's 172s can be had for similar money. Running the 1.6 and the 2.0, I'd certainly have to say if I bought another-it'd have to be the latter.

Good luck with the sale fella.

Seems expensive to me, especially with the mileage on it.

It took me ages to sell my Mini - I tried pistonheads/here/mini torque/trade it - I decided to bend over and pay 40 odd pounds to put it in auto trader, and it was gone within a week.
