Why TDC sensor upgrade?

Had a few starting probs with car and been reading on here and most people say probs tdc sensor, changed it today and started fine everytime so far!

One question though, why the blue plug and change of loom?
Is it an upgrade or just they decided to only make one for all cars so some need the upgraded loom?

Its got modified pins in it as far as I know.
