why wont it start?

hi everyone

basically my car is refusing to start! the starter motor is doing nothing and whenever i turn the key nothing happens at all, no attempt to tickover!
was wondering if anyone could think of any possible reasons, we already tried tow starting but to no avail. btw i have a 92 mk1 phase 1 clio 1.4rt

are the electrics coming on when you turn the key the first click? if not then its a battery thing obviously, if so and the starter motor aint turning over, maybe its just a starter motor thing, in my experience the car tries to start then the immobiliser stops it actually starting, so the starter would still turn over, but maybe immobilsers different in yours.

yeah all the electrics inside the car work. i think it is the starter motor but my brother thinks it may be something in the wiring.

Check the fuses and fuel pump is priming.

was gonna say the fuel pump is a bit of an issue, my brother did some checks and said he doesnt think its workin.

Give it a direct feed and see if it kick into operation or better still unplyg the line and see if the fuels getting pumped in.

i have had the wire of the starter motor come off(spade connector) in the past on my 92 1.4, i just re crimped it and its been fine since although due to other reasons its running like shite

starter motor - very common fault. Put the car in 1st gear with the ignition off. Rock the car backwards and forwards ( only a few inch ) so you can feel it engaging in gear. Then turn your ignition on and try to start it. Its probably a sticking solenoid - best off getting a new starter are having your old one reconditioned if that's whats causing the fault.

ok this may sound REALLY stupid, but have you got remote central locking? if so, try locking and unlocking the car a couple of times - remotely - see if that works. Just a shot in the dark of course but you never know - otherwise yeh, its the strater motor lol

where can i get a new starter motor from? obviously a scrap yard but id ideally like it if i knew it would work? also how much would it cost?

If you have tried towing the car to start and it still don't go it sounds more like an immobiliser problem to me?

the fuel comes out but only when we connect a battery to the fuel pump, also the relay has no power coming out of it. any suggestions?

check the wiring to the realy and or get a new relay.

Hmmm i think ive sorta got the same problem with my Clio DCI!

Sometimes it starts fine but then other times when i start it up it just judders as if its trying to start,

If i put it into 1st while its doin this the car will move forward, reverse etc...!

Anyone know what might be the problem?!

^^ mate your lucky your car starts at all, occasionly i get a slight click from the starter motor but thats all

Its weird,

I have to wait for the immobiliser light to go out or wateva it is,

Then wen all the other lights go out and it doesnt and i try turn it i get the same click!!

Its just really gay wen i wake up late for college n then it wont start lol!!

Urgh my Mk1 Clio is on 111k n never has any problems
