my work has free wifi...what do i need for my laptop to get it????

Wifi receiver.

Assuming it's not got one you can buy either a card or USB receiver.

How old is it?

If it's less than say 5 years old, it'll have a wifi card in it. So you don't need to do anything.. Just roll up and it'll see the network. Then connect.

it an acer aspire 5920....so if it does already have it..what do i do,im a complete novice when it comes to the internet and laptops

yeah it does.
Go to Start - Connect To - Show All connections - Double Click on Wireless network connections - then click View wireless networks.

Then you should see a list, and one of them should be what ever they have called it at your work, double click on this and if it has a password ask your work for it, and if it doesn't then just click connect.
