If you had 4 years, shouldnt you have had the option to protect them? Doesnt it come in on 3 years with most companys?

nope, the 4th years is the first year that you can protect your no-claims

You usually loose about 2 years no claims in an accident or so I was told..

Yea, my friend wrote his car off and had 2 years NCB taken off his 3 years. With the first year being the most important his insurance didnt increase by very much - does depend on your insurer tho
