Will this fit my 172?

I would say so as I don't think they varied.

Not sure how long it would last though as they normally snap around the inlet into the back box as they weigh too much for a standard mount.

Stainless may be better in the long run.

I would get a stainless but the insurance company dont like the idea :(
If you fit a stealth why not play the ignorance card. As long as it doesn't sound daft and stick out like a bean tin you should be OK. Not the P.C. thing to do but hey ho.

I phoned my insurance company up and told them it was stainless steel and offered no performance increased and was a replica of the original Renault system, just that the S/S one was half the Renault price!!

They didnt increase the premium at all. Yeah, like Ben says, play the ignorance card.

Er, it was on when I bought it.......

after my run in with insurance companies i prefer to keep it standard!
Fair do's Rob, understandable. For the £50 notes he asking, who cares if it lasts 6 months. I'd look at modding the rear mount when you fit the new box and ensuring the middle mount isn't shot just to give it a fighting chance.

Then it's straight through scaffold pole time once your renewal comes around and you can insure with a mod friendly company.

Surely fitting a s/s exhaust will be cheaper in the long run, even if you do have to pay extra insurance, which I think is outrageous. Better that than having to replace the std exhaust every couple of years or so.
