Williams... Talk to me.

  Red
Dudes,

Looking for a decent site for information on Williams's/williamii. Looking for common problems, good maintenance reads and the likes.

Any help?

Thanks Lee

Www.WilliamsClio.co.uk in my experience would be the forum to look at.

Rust and gearboxes are the main problems I know of, I'm sure they'll be others that people will bring up.

Wouldn't bother going with any Williams other than a Williams 1, the original with the number plaque etc's going to be worth more in the long run.

Prices range roughly from 2.5k for an average high miler to 5k+ for a mint with lowish mileage example.

Awesome fun if you get a goodun, you'll attract a lot of attention in one. I'd love one myself!

I'm buying Superfastdan's so prices aren't really the problem. But the rest of the info you gave will help, thanking you.

Haha I'm sure if there was anything worng with it that you were to "look our for" Dan would let you know. They're great cars. The only real weakness is the gearbox and rust. Even the gearbox isnt bad, its only really if they've been hammered.

change the gearbox for a cable driven speedo one from a 172 i did this on my old valver as the circlips in the standard jb3/early jc5's were made of chocolate.also fit the longer clutch fork from any mk2 and the bracket on the gearbox bell housing as this will make the clutch pedal considerably lighter than it is now, makes the car a better drive in traffic. the person to speak to is danny at 519automotive. he is a guru on the mk1 clios iirc

What's the price like for consumable service parts on these?

Much like any other car similar car jusyt remember that engine realy fills the bay and can make some jobs diffiuclt. The only bitsd which aare more expensive are some of the unique bit but there still not that bad.

Get a good one and when/if you sell you'll always miss it.

You get good and bad ones so a maintaenance read might scare you and another make you wonder why people buy new.

Rust on the rar arches and boot are the big issues although sills can be bad depends the care the cars had.

As for the Williams 1 I'd go for a 2 for the fact people don't ask more plus there never and bigger side mirrors. As for value of a 1 vs 2 vs 3 I don't think it will matter the three will always have the issue of being soft with abs (not that its much use) and a sunroof which is rubish and leaks unless you take care of it.

Gearbox are OK though there just a normal box and some people think they can do flat shifts and hammer them and after 10 years + and 100k+ they won't last forever. Get a new gearbox rebuilt and it should be fine. YYou have to remember Renault warentied these when they were new so they passed testing. Infact the gearbox code was still in use for years in Mk2's

Can get them for under £2k depend on care etc. There one on the trader for over £7k and thats a 3 (overpriced but you'd have to see it to be fair)

Just buy a good looked after one or accept stuff might need doing thankfully with there price parts second hand can be cheap. They are great cars I always miss mine.

Make sure the steering wheel hasn't got a lot of play in it or you will either need a new column or get the original one welded which I had done to my one. Interiors wear very well very rare to see badly worn bolsters oh and they are THE comfiest seats ever. As mentioned above the gearboxes aren't the strongest and don't like to be rushed IMO. Also if it's got a parcel shelf with the storage bit underneath your a lucky man.

Don't kiss and tell ;)

But I'm interested in yours. I'm returning it to visual standard, exterior and interior, with some nice running mods and from what I remember yours is delicious. Got any decent threads or pic threads?
