Williams Temps

Right now ive almost finished the suspension on 200 im starting to get obsessive about the coolant system. All temps below are at 70-80 cruising speed in this temperature (5 oC)

0002 water temp is normally at 1/4. 0002 oil temp is normally at just below 100

200 water temp is normally between 1/4 and 3/4 but fluctates up and down alot going between 1/4 and 3/4. 200 oil temp is normally just above 100

If just put some coolant system treatment in the expansion tank of 200 and run it and now water temp is the same but oil is just below 100. The coolant on 200 has been flushed in the last 2000 miles. My blowers are pretty hot in the middle and foot wells, but the side ones are pants. When i put the blowers on full the water temp drops a fair amount.

Im planning on getting the system flushed and anything else i need to get the temp down. Any suggestions and what does your Williams / valver tepms run at? I think the oil temp is fine but am concerned about the water temp as i think in this weather 1/4 on the dial is about normal, from seeing younger willys

My 16v runs at 1/4 or just under. Use Reline water wetter or wynns coolant stuff (additives) that helps cool engine. Also got low temp fan switch and thermo from BB. Helps. Think could run into 1/2 before but only in traffic jams.

Sorry not Wynns stuff but millers. Still sound slike yours is running too hot. Water pump OK ???

I dont know. Yeah it is running a little hot. I want to sort it before the summer. Where can i buy redline water wetter or the millers stuff from. I dont want to wait mail order, i need it NOW.

My Williams, now with 59k on the clock, ran at just about 90degC for oil and about a 1/3 to 1/2 on coolant temperature when it had really sh*tty coolant. After a thorough flush, new coolant and a new expansion tank on Friday, its the same - no difference I can see. The heater system also worked well before and after, including the heater matrix.

My old Valver ran at about 110degC on the oil and a little higher on the coolant too, even with an impeccable cooling system. Dont know why! The Valver also reached the 160degC oil temp peak much quicker if I caned it, while the Willy stays cooler under the same circumstances.

I think some things are down to the accuracy of the instruments. My Willy oil pressure gauge shows about 1bar when cold, dropping to the floor when it warms up! Theres no way thats accurate!! (the Valver one was fine BTW)

Miller Oils is 5 mins down the road from me @ Brighouse. If anybody wants anything which isnt stocked in every car shop, let me know. Cos im nice like that.

I used to bounce between half and 3/4 on temp and 110+ on oil. But new head gasket, water pump, and low temp thermostat from bbpt mean it all runs much much cooler. A good flush helps also, dont let your valver or willy run too hot, they hate it. Guages are all a bit vague sometimes

I noticed that my water temp guage rises and falls slowly even if the car is stationary. It cycles like this constantly.
Thats probably due to the crudeness of the thermostat. Its basically just a temperature-dependant valve that is closed when the coolant is cold to only circulate a small amount of coolant around the engine (so it can heat up quicker), then opens up to a larger coolant circuit when the engine/coolant heats up to keep the engine cool. I dont think (in the case of the valver/willyat least) that they are sophisticated enough to reach a steady equilibrium, so keep opening and closing causing temperature fluctuations.

My valver ran really cold (below 1/4) and took ages to heat up, which I discovered was due to the fact that the thermostat was f**ked. Since I replaced it, the coolant temp seems to fluctuate between 1/2 and 3/4, and oil temp just below 100 under normal driving conditions.

The coolant temperature itself isnt that important, as long as it doesnt boil and fulfils its task of keeping the engine at the correct tempertaure. The oil temperature is far more critical, as the lubricating properties vary so greatly with temperature, and the oil can break down quickly if the oil temp is too high.

That sounds pretty much the same as my car, and is certainly well within the safe operating temperature of the oil, so not a problem.

The coolant temp gauge has the bottom mark, then two large marks before it goes into the heavily shaded area. Not sure what you actually mean when you say 1/4, 1/2 etc.? Mine normally hovers around the second mark, the clio manual says the needle should normally be just in front of the heavily shaded area, so 1/4 sounds a bit cool to me?

Like I said, the coolant temp isnt critical, the only disadvantage to running coolant too cool is that the engine will take longer to warm up, so youll wear the engine a bit quicker.
