In a straight line test the Willy really doesnt have the performance of todays hot hatches, I will agree with Ben H though as it cant be touched in its element which is x country!

Come on then, what are people getting for the 1/4 mile in 172s, CTRs and so on? Low 15s, high 14s? Thats exactly what Williams get!!

A few tens of bhp extra bhp are great until you consider the modern weight issues.

There wasnt a more powerful small hot hatch than the Willy until the 172 came along (which isnt exactly much quicker is it?). The Willys only other hot hatch straight line challengers in 1993 were the 150bhp red-top Astra GSi and old Civic VTi.

The best cars balance power and handling perfectly, which by all accounts is what the 182 does. Give either the Willy or 182 substantially more power and this balance is lost.

I dont think the answer can be found until theyve stopped making the V6 and we can find out what numbers were actually built and see how many are getting out and about.

I totally agree with James though, I had a Williams when they were new and in terms of exclusivity relative to other hot hatches, the V6 today is what the Williams was back then.

Of course, if you want real renault exclusivity you could go for a GTA Le-Mans (only 25 rhd built), an R5 Turbo 1 or 2, Sport Spider (only 200 rhd built), etc, etc.

BTW I dont think personal wealth has anything to do with it, within 100Metres of where Im sitting I know of 5 996 Porsche 911s (all in Silver) so hardly exclusive!!!

Totally agree ^^^^ I owned both the 16v and then the original Williams and it had very low mileage and in mint condition. Loved it, as this was about 5 years ago and was then more exclusive for its time. It looked good for its day, but not really much quicker than the 16V Clio, but showing them gold wheels off was enough to make u feel special. Also, at the time the Williams was thought of as the king of the hot hatches, but time has moved on along way since. Its a Classic, no longer an exclusive car.

Also, a bit wrong to even consider putting its exclusiveness up against one of the most exlcusive cars currently around anywhere... the V6.

Have I missed something? Are we all wealthy on this forum, for the majority I think not. Wealth does breed exclusivity, hands up who could afford a V6 and actually afford to loose money on the depreciation and running costs? Especially when Mk3 comes out.

If wealth was not an issue wouldnt a lot of us have V6s a our Sunday car?
If theres 5 911s in your vicinity to me says you live in a well to do area, dont get me wrong I dont live in a sh*t hole but you dont get many 911s to the dozen, probably a few 911s Saxos, but no Porsche 911s

Maybe Im a peasant and mix in Emmerdale farm circles, but there are relativly few people who I know personally who could afford £25K for a car let alone a bloody Clio which makes it exclusive in my eyes. But then again I dont see many Willys about either...hmmm interesting this is.

I think the Williams can only get more exclusive as the arent made anymore - to say they are loosing exclusivity doesnt make sense as there are less of them.

2 completely different cars for 2 completely different price ranges and even completely different purposes.

Not really worth comparing.

My mate bought it for £300.......... so nothing to do with wealth

And Daz, for your information, not that im being defensive or anything, but the original V6 was built for a purpose other than to make money!!

The thing is we are talking about exclusivity in between the V6 and the Williams not Allegro or have I missed the point of this thread, which I think I have.
