Willy Lookalike

Hi there, i have just bought a 1.4rt and am planning to replicate a willy phase1 as i am only 17 and cannot afford the insurance on anything bigger nor will anyone insure me!

I already have the original speedline wheels, the front and back bumpers, vented bonnet, exhaust system, lights, more or less everthing i can think i will need.

I just wondered if there was anyone who had done something similar and wondered if they had any major problems with fitting these bits and also what sort of order to do this lot in?? Please help!!

i dont think the front bumper will go on very easy, may need altering as i think it will stick out, cos of the wider arches

it will pretty much all bolt on, maybe a little fettliong and making the bumpers fit as said...obviously you wont have the back archs....

its not uncommon for the right blue 16vs to be made over like it.

one thing i will say is check with your insurance, as if it looks like one its just as attractive to thieves and if it does get TWOCed then you could be shafted, you may of already thought of this but its worth checking and being honest with the insurance!!

I admit that for a 1st car getting insured is a nightmare, since u seem to have most of the bits then going for the "williams lookalike" wont be too much of a hardship however you are going to ivalidate your insurance if u dont tell them about your mods

My only point is one that may not apply here but i have to say it- why spend lots (generally lots) of money on exterior mods on a 1st car.. if your gonna spend money either get better handling/power or save your coin for a faster car in the 1st place, rant over lol.

If its what you want to do then go for it, its always easy to look back and tell people to save and wait, but hardly anybody ever did.

I had a clio rt, and i never touched it really, so instead i wasted all of my money on other crap!!

Alright mate! I had exactly the same idea as you when i first bought my RT. Wanted to replicate a valver though.

Not long sold the RT i had, heres a pic of what it was like before i sold it though http://www.cruisenorthwales.com/forum/index.php?s=a36671d70fe8ceb85ba3d28276739dac&act=Attach&type=post&id=29642http://www.cruisenorthwales.com/forum/index.php?s=a36671d70fe8ceb85ba3d28276739dac&act=Attach&type=post&id=29642

Doesnt look bad at all really.

The main problem i can see for you is that RTs didnt come in 449 sports blue.

I had mine completely re-sprayed in a very similar colour with a green and purple fleck in. Went to renault & bought 2 front 16v flared arches and a 16v bonnet. Got a 16v rear bumper off someone on here, cant remember whom!

The only real problem with fitting i had was with the rear bumper, as its designed for the valvers flared arches not the puny RTs. I had to mould the original RT side bumper brackets onto the valver bumper so it would fit. If you tighten it enough it pulls it in a bit.

I bought a valver not long before i sold my RT, and ive got to admit that i wish i hadnt spent the money on the RT, because the 16v is just so superior in every way you could imagine! My old RT still looks nice, but put mine and a standard valver side by side and the valver will win my heart every time! Just those seats are too damn comfy!

In other words mate, i wouldnt bother. Get a years no claims on yours, then go straight out and buy a valver! Dont make your car tacky and have everyone saying oh look at him, he thinks its a williams!!!!

Im sure thats something that most people on here will agree on!

Hope this helps mate!

I agree with Alex. I had a 1.2 and spent a lot of time and money making it look nice, although I didnt got for a Williams replica look. At the end of the day it only made me want a Valver or Williams, so I guess it was also a waste of dosh!

To be honest, if you had a 205 and wanted to make it look like a GTi it would be easy. It would also be easier if you had a blue Valver. But making an RT look like a Williams will be difficult without throwing lots of money at it. Without sounding harsh, it will probably stick out like a sore thumb and people will not only know its not a Williams, theyll also know its not a performance car.

There are lots of tasteful mods you can do to the RT and its a respectable car in its own right.

I got a 1.4 rt myself, and with me being 17 and just passed my test 3 weeks ago the insurance was pretty shocking! Ive done a few little mods, nothing major, but enough to make it look nice ( without upsetting the insurance company!)

But i have just told the insurance about me exhaust and there thinkin of charging me a bit more coz its classed as a performance enhancer :(

thanks for eveyones views, all been really helpful. have decided am gonna keep all the williams bits for another year until ive got a years no claims then buy a blue valver so itll probably save money in the long run and can use the RT as a runaround for the time being. cheers again, jack.
