They dont look THAT bad tbh, look better on a JDM car tho, but they can look good on some cars!

They do serve a purpose, as its great for having some fresh air come into the car, without excessive wind being blown into the car.

Im not a smoker myself, but apparently its good for cigerette - tapping the butt?
