windows 7 wont start up

When you installing windows it will ask where you want to install. Erase the partition it is installed on. MAKE SURE YOUR DATA IS BACKED UP. When it all say unallocated space install it there. Means everything of the original partition is gone.

He needs to use OCZ secure erase ideally!

Just deleting the partition should be fine for just a system reinstall.

What like PC world recommend Norton antivirus? Just because they recommend it doesn't always mean it necessary. But up to him really.

No, abit like someone who's had a similar problem trying to help out with removing the underlying issues

Just carry on like normal and you should be fine! If the problem comes back then maybe look into something being wrong with your HDD. More likely to have been software issue tho
