Windows Vista Product Key!

Basically windows broke on my laptop, i didnt have a windows CD with my laptop so i had to use my little brothers...

I need to activate my product - but its faded... I cant seem to find the number i need to call can anyone help?

If you bought a computer with an OEM license you cant get it back unless you use a restore disk or something that came with it when you bought it

Heres a phone number for activations 0870 60 10 100, but you will be lucky if you get them to give you a new product key.

Basically, your fucked tbh, not meaning to sound negative but MS dont just give product keys out really, most OEM machines dont need activating though, so thats a little strange, you can always try MS but i'll be surprised if you get anywhere. Sorry.

Did it not give you the option to 'activate by phone' and give you the number to call. I'm sure it mormally does? It can be a pain at times though. I had to reactivate Windows the other day after installing a new gfx card FFS :dapprove:

I tend to agree. Not knowing all the facts FTL but I reckon they'll tell you to go f**k yourself. I had to call to get a new key once, after I'd installed it on many builds (not at the same time!) and I got 20 questions over the phone before they gave me a new key. I think 'faded code' will be met with many roffles.

Try using your brothers key it might accept it.You could also download a crack for your version for full version.microsoft will charge you for a new key otherwise.pm me if you need a crack as i have one if you need it

there closed to!... im going to restore my laptop again it should work - it only corrupted windows once it was restoring if that makes sense see you all in about 1 and a half hours!

HP wont keep it anyway, if its an older hp that has the os disk and drivers disk then they do need activating. Unfortunate really, you will probably be left with 2 options, buy a new key or go illegal.

worth a try m8 hopefully they can tell you your code else it's use a crack or buy a new vista dvd.or just thought download windows 7 beta dvd then your sorted til aug when the beta testing finishes btw it's worth downloading it as ive got it as a dual boot with vista much better then vista im only keeping vista as it came pre-loaded on my laptop but will buy 7 when it is released later this year.

Cant cloody rememberhow to do the on board restore to factory settings i fought it was f10 but thats just bios setup f12 is OS ... its a Compaq hp v6000

Try start > all programs > hp recovery, its something like that, and sure it was F10, have you re-installed a copy of vista already? i.e. of a disc? If so that will have deleted the recovery partition already.

Did it have SP1 on it?

It's a common problem - even on full blown retail boxed versions. Opening up brand new Vista laptops at work - they fail to authenticate. Chuck Service Pack 1 on there and retry it? They work fine.

I've got retail-boxed Vista Ultimate at home and whenever I reformat my PC, it won't authenticate until SP1 goes on.

However, stick with XP. Unless you're running quad cores.....
