Windows XP Disc Cleanup

Hi

My disc cleanup function had stopped working on XP and just crashes when I try to use it.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

When you run disc cleanup it tries to scan the HD but crashes before it can finish.....

Does this help?

at what point does it freeze?

eg. does it say "compressing old files"

If it freezes at that point, do this.

Click start, run, type 'regedit' and click ok.

now expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>VolumeCatches. Now delete the key named "Compress old files". You may want to back it up just to be on the safe side.

Yes it does and I've followed the work around and its all fixed.
