Windscreen chip

A while ago, a small stone hit the top of my windscreen and made a very small chip. This morning, I was driving to a car meet and a stone was flicked from the road onto my windscreen by a lorry. The result was a little worse than before :(

It's made a nice deep'ish crack and is a little smaller than a 1p coin. Now, what should I do? Should I call these chip people out to see what they can do about it OR do I claim for a new windscreen under my policy? I'm fully comp with protected no claims, etc... and a £50 excess will be a hell of a lot cheaper than paying for a new windscreen outright and also cheaper than having these chip people come out?

A question about my '51 plate 172... I have the automatic headlights and rain sensitive wipers and so the sensors are within the windscreen. These windscreens will be bladdy expensive will they not?

same problem here with the automatic wipers, should just be a sensor that needs placing on the new windscreen. Windscreen repair should be covered under ur policy

most crack repairers state if the crack gets worse once they repair it then they will pay your excess for new screen

Update...

As my MOT's not due until September 2008, instead of waiting until then for the chips to only get worse, I thought I'd pay RAC Auto Windscreens a visit.

Firstly, I asked if they could repair the chips as opposed to replacing the windscreen because it's a heat reflected, light and rain sensor one and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and didn't want to fork out the £70 excess. So they asked if I was fully comprehensive and because of that, if I went home and produced my insurance certificate, I could have the chips repaired free of charge. So I did just that.

However, there was quite a deep one that you can still see but it's ten times better than it was. So 45mins later without having to get my wallet out, all three chips had been repaired I never knew windscreen repairs are FREE under a Fully Comp. policy. You learn something every day :)
