Wipers

Stopped working during a rain shower on the M6, not fun.
They seemed to slow then just died in their normal position.

There was also a strong smell of burning, im thinking the motor?

Any other suggestions?

90% sure it was the motor.

Yeah I mean they got slower, and slower, then just stopped and jumped back down.
Smell was awful, but died off after a while.

Car still stinks though!

Is it an easy enough job to change it?

I do not know, I never had replaced one.

But I know that you take off the plastic cover near the windscreen removing first the arms of the wipers and then you have access to the motor itself. Remove the fixing bolts to the chassis and then disconnect the power cable.

Yeh this happend to me, motor stands a good chance, will have probably blown the fuse aswell. Took me a while to source one at a reasonable price, but its about 15 mins to fit, assuming the wipers come off easily lol, which they probably wont. You need a tool, available from halfords (its actually for ball joints i think, but works ok).

Phil do it yourself you lazy sod :rasp: get a motor from the scrappies for a few pennies!
Just wipe the window with a tissue for now it'll be fine

I work from 9-5:30 man, dont have time!

I wiped the window today, just not looking forward to possible rain.
Drove 20miles down the motorway in rush hour during rain the other day, scary!

I raised my car up about 5-10mm becuase I couldnt get up my drive, LOL
Just bought the wiper parts off ebay, linkage and motor. £55 posted

Easy job!!

My wiper arms were a bi*** to take off and I learnt about the ball joint thing the hard way... well worth it!

Garage quoted me £75 to change my washer bottle, was no way I was gonna pay that!

(the £75 was just for labour, the bottle was £60 by its self!)

Yeah, local parts dealer wanted £200 for motor and linkages, then labour would be on top of that, but i'm guessing it wouldnt take too long to do really!
I almost shat myself when I was told the price, hah!

Lmao. I suppose that's not a bad price for new parts. The linkage is a pretty big part tbh.

Comes out with about 2/3 bolts. So you'll be alright doing it your self.
