Wireless ADSL routers, quick question!

Da

Ok, brother is getting a PC so wanna send broadband upstairs. I know we need a wireless modem & router along with the USB card for his PC. My question is this... My PC is sat directly over the broadband connection, therefore I will not need to go wireless but what I need to know is do the wireless routers have a port for plugging a USB lead in to? (to feed my PC) :S

No they don't. Most of them do have network ports (LAN) which u can use to plug ur PC into (providing u have a network port on your computer)

yes some do, my belkin one had got a usb output. but as it didnt come with a usb, just a network lead (RJ45??) I just went and bought a cheap ethernet pci card from pc world and used that.

ok, cheers for the info. How about I keep my existing ADSL modem and add the router to feed upstairs? Is this possible?

Don't think it is if ur current modem is USB, u can usually only use a router with an ethernet cable, could be wrong though.

thats correct blob, most well I think all of the adsl modems the internet companies supply are usb. has to be a adsl modem with ethernet output to go into straight into a router.

yeah my current one is USB. I can see this is going to be a right pain!!

It really isn't. Dont go for the belkin wireless one, I've got it and was a bit of a pain to set up tbh, not sure if it was just me though. All you have to do is installed a ethernet pci card in your computer if youve got xp thats a 5 min job. then plug your adsl cable into the wireless router, wait for it to find the adsl line. then with your computer off plug the ethernet cable from the router to the pci card. turn the puta on and it will find theres a conection there, then type in the routers IP address to access its console, type in you ISP username and password and then connect. you will then be online 24/7. make sure you havent got any search spyware on your pc because mine did and it just searched the IP address instead of access the routers console.

sorry I don't know much about connecting the wireless connection between the other computer because I'm using wifi between my laptop to the router and it just found the connection automatically.

So looking at this page i would need the 576 model as opposed to the 580?? ThompsonSpeedTouch 576?

Thanks for the info mitch, much appreciated :)

dont think it would matter what one you got. I havent been able to set up a network to the pc through mine yet but I'm using the net connection through it fine. must get on to belkin support

ok cheers, ordered one and should have it tuesday. Will let you know how I get on...
