wireless geeks

im needing to implement a wireless network in our factory with roaming and it also needs an access point outside the building as they load teh trucks out there anyway

im sure Ap's broadcast further the higher they are right ? do you get a dead spot underneath the ap though ? and how far will it broadcast in open air ? id like to keep it to a minimum of 54mbps

Well, "minimum" of 54Mb is not going to be possible without using some pre-N equipment. 11g won't ever be able to sustain a full 54Mb true throughput in that environment.

I think that rules out the enterprise equipment, as I've not seen a Cisco AP for example running N. You may have more luck with a, which the Cisco AP's do now.

dont need to sustain it as such i just want it faster than 11mbps everywhere. but would most prob use N to get a larger range

I used to work for Buffalo technology doing presales. Their kit's actually pretty good. They do high gain external antenna's 2 typs actually, directional and omni-directional. The directional was pretty much point and shoot and supposedly had a range of 1.9 miles and the omni was pretty much an umbrella range of 0.9miles radius.
Their access points are quite good you can set them up in WDS and have them bridge the wireless signal. Not sure if this is exactly what you want but thats what we used to recomend,.

Im a netgear wireless specialist and would advise the new WFS709TP switch to manage all the AP's - Im also beta testing the new Prosafe N wireless AP that will work with the WFS709TP when released into the market.

The switch gives massive benefits to just an AP.... central management, load balancing, roaming, voip qos bla bla bla.... list is endless.

ps the wfs709tp is an auruba switch rebadged with some firmware tweeks, so top wireless product at a fraction of the cost.
