Wireless issues....

.. bit of an odd one, but we have 3 computers networked in our house, so that we can all have internet access at all time

now i know signal strength suffers the further away from the router that you are, but here's the problem

belkin pre-n router 108Mbps
belkin wireless adaptor 108Mbps x 2

computer the router is connected to runs as usual, other 2 run at 54Mbps with 92% and 71% signal strength, the 92% is less than 3 metres away from the router in the same room with nothinn apart from 2 chairs separating them, the 71% is around 3 metres away, but upstairs in the room directly above the router, obviously i appreciate this will make the signal suffer.

but why the heck do both run at 54Mbps?? any possible answers welcomed

bandwidth speeds are ok, nothing special, but they do the job required, hopefully with an increase in transfer speed, these will increase

Are you running on the standard wireless channel? Try changing it to channel 2/3 as people in your area might be on the same channel and interfering.

we're on channel 6 (tried 3,4 & 8 previously), no-one in the area has a connection, we've checked time and time again

only possibility would be the bp garage that is immediately at the end of my back garden, but it's unlikely

possibly because wireless G runs at 54meg and then belking do giggery pokery to double that to 108 and maybe windows only sees it as a 54meg connection?

have you tried transferring files between to two and seeing what actual speed you get?

why on earth would you need the 108meg though when you BB can't be anything more than about 8 unless you are transferring files between computers often but i can't see why you would really need to do that in the home?

You'll only get full connection speed when your very close to the router due to signal quality/strength issues, on the router configuration do you have anything like 'burst transfer' or something like that ticked/selected if theres an option.

I know theres one on my 54g+ router

m8 i had same problem with my netgear router, i looked on the website support page and it said change channel to 6 i was using 11 at the time. So i did and it went up to 108!!

Also upgrade the drivers/firmware for the router and the adaptors this may help.

Oh and u gonna transfer files get a cat5e cable so much quicker than wireless.
