Well I disacgree slightly as it is specific. What you have said is correct so there is a difference lol. The majority of cable based routers have not internal modem so it cannot deal with signal being sent from the cable NTE that NTL/Virgin use so that why you still needs the original modem. Where as a ADSL BT / LLU provided service can be plugged directly into the router as the modem is pre built and then just acts a 4 port ethernet/switch with wireless capabilites.
Sorry for adding more lines lol
You've basically just managed to say you disagree, and then repeat what I said
What I was saying was a cable modem takes the cable coax input and then presents the Internet connection as an ethernet connection, whether you then connect the cable to an ethernet card in a PC, or to an ethernet router. Thus a router for this is
not specific to it. I could take any ethernet router and plug it into my cable modem, and I could take any cable router designed for use with a cable modem, and use it to route a random ethernet connection within reason.
As for Orange, they only issue Live boxes to new customers now, seems Brooky182 has been a customer since the pre Livebox era. The Livebox is a pile of crap anyway tbh, it only supports the weak and highly-crackable WEP encryption method, and it frequently crashes especially when put under a high pps by anything. Orange might issue you a Livebox if you asked but as Adam says I'd get an ADSL router of your choice, make sure it does WPA, preferably WPA2. Good luck soldier
