wiring 6x9s, do i need an amp?

  MK2 PH2 & E46 330
two holes in the parcel shelf already in my car. so if i fill them with 6x9s do i need an amp?

i want to keep the existing speakers in the back though. (so not cutting those wires and extending them to my 6x9s).

is there a way of piggybacking these existing wires though?... or...?

In a word no, You will have to use the wiring for the rear speakers.

IF you "piggyback" as you say, you will run a 2 ohm load on your head unit and could break the internal amplifier.

I want to keep the rear speakers thoug if I can. My mate tells me its ok to splice into a couple of the wires at the back of the headunit but im not so sure...

imo get an amp to get optimum sound quality. Can get them on here for gd money. And you know you wont be buying s**t

Im having the same trouble at the moment, Just asked on Talk Audio forums if i would be putting two loads on the head unit (Both 6x9s and rear speakers)

So i think i mite loose the rear speakers, and extend the wires into the boot.

Probably later i will get a sub, get better rear speakers and loose the 6x9s. but not sure.

I think your best option is to get a small amp for the 6x9s if you want to keep the rear speakers, Or just take them out and extend the wire to the boot.
