Wont select 2nd

On my way home from work yesturday my car would not select 2nd. This problem is intermittent. Sometimes if I old it in place it wobbls in after a few seconds. Usually when it will select second it is a little stiff.
Any ideas

I was unable to select gears, then after a few miles, there was a bang and I lost 5th gear. Maybe keep an eye on my other post if it gets any replies.

Try changingthe g/box oil first.

Then check the selectors, infact do that first

Its just one selector rod, change the oil though and check the selector lever correctl adjusted.

Would it be relevant to say its a new (recon) gearbox with new oil. Oh and after 3 or 4 journeys with it playing up the problem seems to have gone any comments
