I really want to invest in HD as I'm really into watching movies but heres my reasons, sorry didn't mean to suggest early adopters are wrong etc, if your happy with your purchases then thats cool
Theres no reason why one single media can't have both the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray version on it as both formats are stored at different layers on the media, theres a big article on it in one of the main mags, Some studios may adopt this in which case 20th C Fox who have gone the Blu-Ray route, could for eg do Starwars in both formats BUT on same media, hence if everyone did this you wouldn't have to choose the format which suits your taste of films based on which studios are going which route, eg LOTR by newline are HD-DVD, Starwars by 20th C Fox are Blu-Ray
Also there loads of things still up in the air which no-one seems to be addressing
Regional coding - HD-DVD is free now, it may change, also Blu-Ray not decided yet, also it may be far more difficult to obtain the equivalent of R1 in the UK, and also for multiregion players to be available too
Many initial launch titles dont have Dolby HD or DTS-HD soundtracks, also no guarauntees they ever will as everyones too bothered about the picture, not sound
Blu-Ray titles gonna be using MPeg2 codec not Mpeg4 - why ffs ?
Even 1080p LCD sets aren't gonna see 1080p/50, all titles are 1080p/24 at launch, why
Then with LCD's, I won't buy one unless it's 2 or 3 HDMI's out of the box, and does native 1080p, but theres not many arround at the mo, especially under 40", cant see point of spending £1500 now on a 1080i LCD when in 6 months Id be watching a 1080p title at 1080i, I'll wait until theres a 1080p LCD 37" thats a decent price
I know it's all evolution but for me everything seems rushed at the moment, all imho
