Worth changing the water pump when cambelt being done?

  A slow one :-(
As above really... when I had my old clios cambelt done I had the water pump changed on recomendation from the dealer.

Is it worth getting it done on my 52 plate cup?

Hum difficult one you have to pay say £45 to do it if you do then your ok if you don't you might fine it isn't an issue anyway you pay your money or not and take the chance.

I brought this when i got my cam an aux belt kit.. didnt changed the water pump as my mechanic said it looked fine?

the pump isnt cambelt driven on the 172 is it?

Out of interest where is the pump?

hmm I'm still trying to decide if I should sell the cup. I'll make my choice this weekend... if its staying I'll get it done otherwise might as well save my cash.

Tough decision though on the car front...
All brake discs and pads are in descent nic, less than 20% ware all round,
replaced rear shocks in the summer,
tyres all have 6mm+ tread on them,
Apart from the cambelt the only thing that I can see going is the exhaust. Would make sense I guess to keep a hold of it as I've lost s**t loads on depreciation on it as it is!

Pump is powered of the aux belt which is different than all other clios.

Exhaust will go get it up in the air at a garage and you'll see the week spot IMo get it welded up or another bracket made to hold the exhaust up or save for a new exhaust the stock exhaust is to heavy for the design.

Why is the water pump needed to be changed?.. and what are the consequences if i don't change it? coz im getting my cambelt done soon too

on your model the pump is driven by the cambelt...

so if the water pump fails it could damage the cambelt, which will then cause a knock on affect of damage.

even if the pump is replaced, you will still need new cambelt an tensioners

So, if i change my cambelt and tensioners, without changing the water pump.

and the water pump fails, then my cambelt can be damaged??

The reason you change them on the 1.2 16v is that they tend to leak. My old one did but I got shot before it got to a worrying level.

Pump doens't need to be but since it has to last till 10years or 144k as such if is not chnaged some people do chnage it for the small £45 extar cost.

The pump can leak and fail Ive never seen any fail they can leak though which means the cambelt has to be changed again to change the pump.
