would a mk1 v6 make me as happy as a mk2

  An orange one

if i go for a mk1 i can afford to trade my cup in about 10 months time and get a lowish milage vee about 52 plate perhaps...but if i go for the mk2 (i do prefer the new front end and handling) ill have to wait 2 years or more due to still out of my price range.

mk1 owners or people who have driven both..is there any performance difference except the drastically different handling? and is it possible to fit a mk2 bumper with work?!

Well I recon that JC and the like might notice a dif.............even we might notice a dif if we were to drive one then the other straight after.................but hey how often is that going to happen................I think the sooner the better and you will not regret it believe me..................you wont :D Mk1 it is then eh :D

Oh and the new bumper........Im sure this has been asked before and it was decided that it was not possible!

Ive not driven both, but i wanted a Mk2, couldnt afford it & went for a Mk1, the experience is amazing, i think if youve got a V6, enough said, if your really picky about handling, the the Mk2 has it, but you have the car to enjoy the ownership, not a gain of 2/3 seconds round a track.

Get a Vee, the best you can afford, & just smile from ear to ear :)

well if i go for a mk2 ill leave it alone..but for a mk1 id really like to fit the mk2 18" wheels and possibly a full colour change in something a bit different, pastel blue perhaps..

so just trying to work out whats going to be more cost effective, going to get bum raped for insurance as ill just be 21 anyways :S

Why not buy a mk1 now, and if you feel the need, trade up for a mk2 in a year or twos time...

The mk1s 2nd hand values have been steadily dropping for some time, and theyre now a steal at £13-15k, but Ive also noticed that theyve stayed steady at that figure for some time now, and dont seem to be dropping any lower, which means that theyve gone through their initial depreciation, and are holding their value now.

When they stop making the mk2 in October, the prices of both versions will probably stay steady - i.e. if you cant buy a new one, and the old ones get gradually written off and scrapped, they become rarer and rarer, so the values should hold.

Check out the price of a 12 year old Escort Cosworth and youll see what I mean - theyre still fetching £12k+

So if you buy a mk1 now, and keep it for 1-2 years, youll probably lose very little money, and *might* even make a small profit if the values start rising again (as happened with the Escort Cos), and then you can trade up for a mk2 - everyones a winner!

BUY NOW - YOULL LOVE IT!

p.s. Send a PM to Scotty6R4 - Hes got mk1 & mk2 bumpers in stock, so will be able to compare them side by side to tell you whether theyre interchangable.

Cheers,

Dave

What EVO magazine said about the pair was very good something like

The mk2 looks great and is the epitomy of an all round sports car, the mk 1 just looks great!

However Im sure if you drop coilovers into the mk1 then the playing field will somewhat level.

thanks guys...think youve convinced me..as for upgrading from mk1 to mk2..i probably wouldnt bother..for the little differences when i get bored of a mk1 id go for something entirely different,

cant justify changing atm..only had cup 2 months ;) i just made the mistake of driving a mk2 vee 3 weeks ago..and cant get it out of my mind now..
