It all depends on how much light they kick out, they need to be nice and bright at night.

If you buy tinted rears then they'll more than likely be ok,
but if you spray them yourself they'll probably not be bright enough at night.

You'll probably be alright in Cov though lol, I see loads with totally black rear lights,
old bill don't seem to give a sh*t about stuff like that here.

As long as their is a reflector part showing. And the lights are actualy visible. Then yes. It should be ok.

  2.2 bar shed.
They're not. My mate got away with his on his old rover, they were heavily smoked apart from the indicators/reverse lights.

As well as the brightness of the bulbs being one of the important factors for being pulled over for them.
A lot of people overlook the fact that they have built in reflectors which are a legal requirement. When tinted like above, I would imagine the reflector is 95% useless.

(Not to mention they look w#nk)

so there not road legal lol?

Would a windscreen that dark be road legal?

It's equally important for others to be able to see your lights as it is for you to be able to see other people. It's all about common sense. In reality there probably isn't a law saying that X percentage of your rear light output has to be visible from Y distance, but there will be a part of the MOT saying that they must be reasonably visible.

The old bill will probably have a go if they're looking for a reason to stop you. They do have machines to test the amount of light being transmitted.

Not to mention someone could quite easily not realize you are turning off somewhere or braking.

If the reflectors don't reflect anymore it will fail an MOT and you may get stopped and given a slip to fix it, I doubt you'd get an immediate ticket

lamin x might work on tinting the rear lights

i used fly eyes to get my rear lights darker and i have had no trouble from the police even with a routine check
