Would this be shite ???

it'd be good for removing/applying polish if your a lazy b*****d if thats what you mean ;)

Its a rotary polisher so will work very well with proper pads and some decent polish, use with care though - as you can do more harm than good with one.

tbh i'd get one of the drill attachment ones, can get them for around 14 quid and i've heard they're just as good

oh i see, So would this help get swirls out ???? Or am i needing something else ??? I have read threads and it says you need a pc??

The one in the link is a proper rotary same as used in bodyshops, things to look out for are what speeds it runs at and what size spindle it has to know if it can run a decent backing plate to allow you to use proper pads.

It should give much more speed control rather than using drill which in most cases runs far to fast.

It will get swirls out used correctly with decent pads and polishes no problems.

The main disadvanatage it can install holograms, putting in milder swirls taking the deeper ones out.

The PC is recommended as the safer option as it is harder to damage paint with. Push down on a rotary and it will spin and spin and burn paint. Do the same with a PC and it will bog down and almost stop spinning. The PC ocillates making it a safer tool to learn with.

With a PC it is easy to finish with - ie get a decent glossy finsih without any holograms, something that is alot more tricky with a rotary.

yeah i can imagine, I was only looking into it so I might invest, Really like the finishes on some of the cars posted in thissection, So me and my gf want a go. She has a new mini i have my 182,

The PC has been such a worth while investment on my Black car - recommend it to anyone. A very easy tool to get to use. The Rotary is a different beast but when mastered it's finish is better than a PC.

I don't use the rotary unless it is helping at a mates bodyshop, not brave enough to use it elsewhere!

hmmmm i dunno whether i'd be brave enough, as rich says a lot of the time they can do more harm than good, as many a time i've had my car back from the body shop covered in swirls and even laquer burn in places due to the harshness of the rotary they've used.

i'm gonna get mine pc'd twice a year (by people on here (andy ;))) and then keep it topped up by using scratch x

Yeah very rare that people can leave a decent finish with rotary in most paint shops - most cases people do more harm than good.

Though to be honest it mostly comes down to it being rushed out the door.

lol yep tell me about it, next time it goes in i'm gonna tell em not to rotary it and leave it to me to get it pc'd somewhere, often looked 10x worse than when it went in.

just wait till the yellow one comes back, if they've rotared that to fook i'll be sending it straight back for a respray lol

i have used a rotary in my mates bodyshop, We did my bonnet on my saxo, Might have a go, Can you buy pads from halfords ??? or are they specialist order from internet sites?

  Chocolate Bar™
i'd not get them from halfrauds tbh, purely because they'll be overpriced, theres loads of various specialist sites on the internet that can sort you out, cant remember them off hand but i'm sure rich knows them

pcs cost circa 180 quid all in, or you can pay someone to do it for you for about 50 quid (worth it though)

Most places sell the pads

The best way to get the PC is to imprt from Autopia http://www.autopia-carcare.com/pcdepot.html

There is a guide kicking about here, and then get a plug, cable and transformer from Screwfix or such like. As Mark says its about a 150-200 quid outlay to get all you need.

You can get everything you need in one kit Tim in the UK though for extra cash if you dont fancy importing http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/shop/polishing/polishing-machine/c_17.html
