Would you buy a new mk 2 clio

  DC5

The girlfriend is looking at buying a new car, and likes the clio extreme4. As it is a limited edition and hasnt been around all that long, she is more than likely going to get a brand new one.

Is this a good idea with the mk 3 clio coming out later this year? I cant help but feel that not only is she going to get the normal depreciation that all new cars get, but the price is going to fall even further when the new model clio comes out!

She has got an OK price, the car she is looking at is normally about £9,700, but they have offered it for about £8,200. So the loss might not be as bad if and when she came to sell it in a few years time.

I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts were on this?

The clio coming out is DAMN ugly.

New cars lose ALOT of value as soon as theyre driven from the showroom.

With that amount of money you could get a used car with a nice big engine - and still have money to insure it.

Theres my opinion.

i wouldnt buy it, in a years time that 8.2 k will be worth less than 4k if your lucky, its worth waiting or getting something else

Id get a 172 for that money! You should be able to get a good one for 8k. Wouldnt bother with a brand new 1.4.

Ive said it before but I will NEVER buy a brand new car again (unless I win the lottery).

She is only 18, 19 next month and although she has been driving her dads car for the year that she has had a license, she cant really have anything more powerfull due to insurance etc.

She is looking at a 1.4 or a 1.6 extreme, and I think she will more than likely get the 1.6.

get a 2nd hand one, with a few k on it, and loads of warranty left, you will loose thousands on that one new one

as blue said she is best getting a mint second hand one because it will already have depreaciated lots.

I have just had a look on autotrader website and there arent any on there. The extreme 4 is too new! There are a couple of DCIs on there and 1.2s, still less than 1000miles on the clock, all around the £8k mark.

She specificly wants the extreme 4 because it is the new 1 with the colour coded bumbers etc.

Hylton Renault in Worcester.

Where did you find it new for £6.5k?

Car she is looking at is the 1.4 or 1.6 Extreme 4!

i traded my 1.4 dynamique that was brought for 9800 for 5300 less than 18 months later:eek:

fair enough mate, you buy one, its your cash:D
Not my money ;)

Im not quite that good a boy friend.

I usually wait until we have been together a year before I start buyin 9k cars for my girlfriends. :)

Dont get me wrong, I agree with all of the above, that buying a year old one is the best thing to do, but like I said I cant find any used Extreme 4s.

If anyone knows of any used Extreme 4s then I am sure that my girlfriend would prefer to buy it and save herself a bit of money as well.

why not wait til the new one comes out then the price of the old shape that they will be selling alongside the new models are bound to come down

Yeah there are a lot of extremes, but not extreme 4s, which is the newer one with the colour coded bumpers. The one she wants (you know what girls are like when they set there mind to something)

Sounds to be like youve already decided. I bought a 1.2 Clio Extreme for something like £9k a few years back. Exactly 2 years later I sold it for £5250.

The question is - how do you like them apples?

I have emailed that Sunwim company (think thats it cant remember now), as they appear to have a few for sale. Only problem is them being in Yorkshire, and Im in the midlands. Ive asked if they deliver though.

chap, for the money you would save its worth a trip up there, i picked a car up from preston, and im in nottingham, for a few quids worth of petrol its worth it

what are these car super market places like? has anyone used them?

Definitely worth a little day trip to go and look at a car if it saves you a couple of grand.

Thing is, youll probably be able to pick up Extreme 4 Clios for 5k this time next year!

  As father and son....

for anyone interested in buying a new car, i suggest checking out http://www.buyyourcar.co.uk . its run by people i know very well, the new website launches on the 1st August. initially they do only new cars, but are soon going to expand into an autotrader esque 2nd hand car market. all vehicles are dealer approved, and simply by ordering and enquiring online you can save a tonne of money depending on what model car you get. well worth a look when the site goes live.

The gf is now undecided about getting a new car after reading this thread. She doesnt like the thought of losing so much money.

I will speak to her 2nite to see what she intends to do. If she is still interested I will give you a call tomorrow. Would it be possible to come and have a look at the car and have a test drive on Friday if she is interested?

yeah no worries, as long as you bring the driving licenses of all people who want to drive,
and you give me two hours notice as we cant keep all
our cars on site cos our forecourt is tiny!

Dan.
