Would you sell your clio on here?

Hey all,

Just been reading the Advice Needed Please Guys thread by liamroadnight and have noticed that quite a few people wouldnt advertise their cars on here if they were to move on to sell them.

Im just interested who would/wouldnt and if not, why not?

As you know if you've read my other thread I'm in the market for a 172 and came here to see if theres anything I should know before taking the dive, the site's been really helpful on that - I've also had a look around the Cars for Sale section, and the numbers appear to be lower than I expected.

Surely selling a car to someone on here would make more sense, if you have nothing to hide in its' history? I know there may be repercussions (sp?) regarding faults etc, but it seems like a pretty close-knit community.

Cheers,
Joe:approve:

If your car is straight. then there's no issues. Obviously though, a car is priced as an owner sees its worth, the problem here (used to be when the 'for sale' threads weren't locked), was people slating the prices, etc.

If you were selling a car described as 'mint' or 'sound' and there was a thread to suggest it wasn't...then I'd be worried on here, as someone would bust you! ;)

At the end of the day, if you buy a car without warranty, you can't expect the seller to bail you out if something goes wrong. If you are paying out a lot of money for a car, pay the extra and get a 2nd opinion/inspection.

I'm not aware of anyone buying a car from another member and reporting grief with it...but could be proved wrong. :)

I would put it up for sale on here as well as other places, if you've paid your £10, you might as well advertise it, even if it is 'up' elsewhere.

Cheers for the input Donny, just noticed you're from Telford, I'm only 5 or so miles from there myself. Where did you get your car from, if you dont mind me asking?

I LOL'd hard.

At the end of the day, if you sell on here and its not as described, you may as well never come back on this forum. Selling a car is all about trust. If you dont trust the seller, dont buy. End of.

I would - it would be my first port of call to sell it - unless I got a superb PX on my next car.

The fact is on here, many people can check and verify your threads about your car and can probably make a good judgement call on the way its been treated. It won't necessarily cover 100% of it's ownership life, but certainly a good chunk anyway.

Just my 10p

Like I said in the other thread, i'd try my luck with pistonheads/autotrader first.

Now threads are locked there is less price slating, but it still happens in other threads.

And buyers are more fussy on here i have found when i have advertised on here, more hassle than the autotrader/ph equivalent and less willing to part with the cash.

If i didn't sell within a couple of weeks then i would put up here, with the cars and bikes i have sold though i have always been realistic on price and have always sold quickly.

Also, although their are a few non cs owners on here looking for cars to buy, there aren't that many so it is a low audience, maybe a meg or 197 would be better to sell on here to 1*2 owners as an upgrade.

I've advertised loads of my cars on here and all I got was messers.

'Oh, i'm deffinately interested but I have to see if i've got enough money' etc etc.

Champagne taste and lemonade money springs to mind.

Yes, re: RS' in particular, there are always potential buyers, i.e. 1.2/4 owners.
Providing your car has been looked after past (media) threads will show this, you'll have no problems selling. J.D's rep is an example.

I'd prefer to sell and buy cars via a forum.. you get to see how it has been treated.

I'd also want to sell my current 182 on here so another enthusiast has ownership of it.

I would sell my car on a forum, and even this forum.

But I from what I would understand is some people dont like selling to people off forums because they dont want someone else posting pictures of there old pride joy and seeing other people drive it.

This is the first place I looked for my car, but the lack of motors for sale on here astonished me

I sold my 182 through here, the buyer was a sound guy. Was messed around massively by one person, then this other guy contacted me, we agreed a price, he turned up with cash and drove off in it.

I bought my 182 as I'd seen a link to it on the eBay section, but it didn't belong to anybody here as far as I know. Someone else was going to look at it but I decided it was a bargin so put a deposit down without even looking at it (was going to break it if it was a shed) but I don't think I would sell it on here as imo a lot of people have very high expectations and think they are some kind of bloody super car, as much as I love my 182 it's a 2k car and mine is a 2004 reg which is 6 years old, and some people seem to forget that and expect everything to be perfect. I also hate how everyone thinks they know everything eg no stickers on the front bumper it's definatly been smashed up etc
I also can't offer finance and a warrenty which most people on here seem to want

I think cs is probably a good place to sell low milage/ proper tidy examples

Yeah I'd sell mine on here. It may have had one or two problems (as any would), but because I've been on here and I'm paranoid about things I'm always keen to find out what they are and replace/fix asap and will have the reciepts to prove it. The reciepts I have and the posts on here will actually show more about how the cars been looked after than the service book (even though it's up to date) and I'd be more than happy for people to look at them.

I'm just writing up the thread on splitting that car right now dude to get rid.

  phase 2 172
It was me who put this topic into the thread but i got aloud of silly answers .At the end of the day its free to advertise on cs once your a full member .why would you not adversise on here ?i have bought 2 172 s on here over the years. I think this site is graet overall but you get so many idiots who just want to shout the toss for the sake of it.

  Clio RS 172 /Trafic
I'd buy and sell on here. Also Renaultsport forum is useful for selling and buying cars and parts. If anyone offered me the right money I'd consider selling my 172.I've spent quite a lot on it since buying it 2 years ago and its really reliable and relatively cheap to run.
