SmartGlass for Android/Apple won't be out til next year though. Windows 8 version is out this week apparently.

Got to give them credit for adding new features though. Next year or not i think this Smartglass looks amazing.

i.e. works well with the chat pad even without smartglass imo.

It's a good idea - I already have an app where I use my phone to interface with my PC, so presumably relatively simple (in the scheme of things!) to do now.

Agreed typing using the Xbox pad is dire!

I know but you're missing my personal point - Its a games console so just bloody leave it as that. I'm sure others use theirs as a media extender or a cheaky way of using their parents Sky account but I don't. If I want to browse the internet i'll use my iPad or Ultrabook. If you could opt out then I wouldln't moan but I hate having stuff forced on me because apparently "I need it".

I even gave up playing BF3 because it started to get silly with weekly 800Mb-1.2Gb updates

Fair enough if you don't want to use any of the new benefits, I personally won't be using the browser, but I hardly think it's forced.

You can set up your xbox to play the disk without going to the dashboard on start up if you want to avoid the marketing.

Its all there to keep up with the market but its easily avoidable and you don't have to use any of the mentioned features if you don't wish.

I think its all part of Microsofts plans for the Xbox to BE a multimedia machine.

IMO the dashboard has clearly been used as a development tool to get people used to the tile system of Windows 8,and the similarities are huge.

I personally think the next gen xbox will be pretty much a windows 8/9 pc with a slightly stronger slant towards gaming.

I don't want for any more out of my Xbox atm, apart from better performance.

It's a great machine and it would take a lot of endorsements (BBC, Sky etc.) for someone else to beat it now.

Not sure i do either, but i am pretty sure its Microsofts aim that you have one (x) box connected to your tv and through that you can watch/stream/download music/films/tv shows.

By integrating the same apps as on windows 8 computers/tablets /phones it will mean you can start watching on your phone for example, then continue on your tv via the xbox when you get home.

If they get it right, it could be huge for them.

I may be completely wrong, but it strongly suggests this is what they are aiming for.
