XBox360 Best Picture Setting?

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
If your TV can display 1080i, is that the best you can use for games on the 360? Or should you stick with 720p or 480p (or whatever it is?)
I'd have though the higher figure would be the best to use, but on some game reviews they claim that 720 and even 480 is the best, even with 1080 on offer. Confused :S
Its a Panasonic 42" plasma TH42PX, so its pretty impressive, but I want the best display and picture possible. Should I just stick it on 1080i and have done with it?

Cheers :)

yeah, check them all and see which one fills the screen the most. some of the higher ones put boarders around the edges etc..

I did the 1080i thing and it squised the pic down, so wend down a few sizes, and now fills the screen perfectly

I've always had mine set up as 1080i mate, If you watch the screen when you change it in xbox Dashboard you can see the difference in quality. Im not sure the 360 has 1080p yet, think theres a new 360 coming out soon with the HDMI connecter at the back.

the 360 does do 1080p but only through VGA.

I personally can't tell the different between 720p and 1080i on a 32" screen so IMO it doesn't matter, on a 42 it might be different.

try both, if you can't tell the difference massively then I wouldn't worry about it mate.

Cheers David. I have GRAW2 now and would like it displayed perfectly. I was just reading a review on Fight Night 3 and it said about 1080i being superb yet I have mine set on 720p (due to a review on Burnout 3 claiming this was the best setting).

I'll try 1080 and see how it fares :)

Will I notice slowdown, stutter or anything like that with different screen sizes?

the tv, when your on whatever input your using eg. component press the menu button on the remote and change it to game mode, it smooths it off and makes it look even better!

the human eye shouldn't be able to detect the picture difference between the two an a screen less than 42", apparently, its not really looking to notice a difference until you get to 50"

haha, it looks awesome now mate! Cheers for that :)

also I know its got a swivel stand but mine doesn't seem to want to swivel withut it looking like its going to brake :( any ideas?

Most HD TVs on the market have screen resolutions of 1280 x 720 (up to 720p).

Only the very expensive ones have screens of 1920 x 1080 (up to 1080p). So unless you have a screen res of 1920 x 1080 there's no point in selecting 1080 i / p as the screen will downscale it to a 720 res anyway IIRC?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure.

if its a 720p screen then it won't let you choose 1080p but it will let you choose 1080i as its interlaced and not a true 1080 lines, you are tricked into thinking it is.

Ive managed to put the it onto Dynamic mode for colour which makes it look much better than what it is but I can't for the life of me find 'Game Mode' :(

Do you have the same TV as me?

its in the setup tab at the very bottom, and your stand should swivel freely no problem, have you maybe got it on back to front? in fact i dont think it would slide on at all back to front...

i have the R74BDX samsung btw

I would go with 720p, progressive is much better than interlaced.. I think 1080i doesnt look as good as 720p
