xenon lights

  skoda and audi

I noticed this morning that only 1 of my xenon lights came on but about 30 mins later the other one came back on and when i started the car tonight only 1 light worked. But when i got my wife to try them while i watched the lights it flashes for about a second then goes off anybody any ideas as the light as come on so i dont thing the bulb as blown.

Get it checked, I think the xenon bulbs are suposed to last for the life of the car?! Could just have come loose, but dont mess with it just incase they blame you....they are very expensive to replace.

Just to correct a few things,

The xenons have no filament as such so they dont burn out, they will stop working though and need replacement, up to about £120 for a pair of bulbs but you should be able to find em cheaper.

Xenons are gauranteed for 4 or 5 years, cant remember which exactly but its either 4 or 5.

sounds like the starter/computer is playing up(the part that supplies the high voltage spike to start the bulbs).you need a spike of 20,000volts to start the bulb and then 80volts to keep it going.i think xenon bulbs are gauranteed for 10 years.

I got the above problem sorted the starter pack needed replacing.Took it my local dealer and they quoted about £240 with labour. As the car is a inport and as no warranty left.Spoke to the service manager and he said he can get the job done for free as xenons are gauranteed for 5 years. So problem sorted and didnt cost a penny.Good job allround.

Where are people getting their info on the 5-10 year guarantees on these things? One of my Xenons is not working - the dealer wont repair under warranty as it claims that no bulbs/lamps are covered after the 1st year. After inverstigation the Muppets cant tell me which part is faulty - the discharger or the bulb. So Ill have to inccur labour on fitting of a new bulb + new discharger at £150 + £220 + fitting.

Reanult UK have been less than helpful saying the exact same thing. They will only refund the cost to me if a manufacturing fault is found on the discharger and the bulb isnt faulty.

At the mo Im going round in circles from one to the other getting nowhere -so much for a fecking 3 year warranty.

When you turn your lights on does the broken one flash for a split second or is there no light coming from it.If it flashes it looks like the starter pack which should be covered thats what the man at renault told me.I got mine fixed free with no warranty maybe i caught the service manager in a good mood.

starter packs should be covered for the complete 3 years of the warranty.not sure about the bulbs though.Normal bulbs are only covered for the first 6 months but im sure xenons bulbs have different warranty.

Yup this is exactly what happens! Its only noticable if you get someone else to turn the lights on while you stand infront of the car! This Saturday was gonna be me taking the bumper off and trying the bulb in the otherside - its been out for 5 weeks now all through the dark nights - whilst waiting for Renault UK to get back to me with an answer - not good!
